Five years ago, the Philippines won a landmark legal victory over China over disputed territories in the South China Sea - including traditional Filipino fishing grounds like Scarborough Shoal.

Despite the tribunal ruling, there has been a constant Chinese Coastguard presence there - with Filipino fishermen reporting harassment by the authorities.

People who think logically would never consider china's claims as legal. The 9-dash line is just ridiculous.

Edit: If you're gonna base your judgment on a thousand/hundred-year-old map, then it can be inferred that Mongolia also has the right to claim China as part of its territory today. Kidding aside, the international laws imposed by the United Nations should suffice. The Philippines had already instituted arbitral proceedings against China on the international court a couple of years ago. The Philippines won the case.

Look at the territorial waters of China in the unusually wide South China Sea that China claims. It is too far from Hainan Island and mainland China. Despite that, China even goes deep into the territorial waters of its apparently neighboring countries, except for those territorial waters, and conducts illegal fishing. It's not just a few illegal deviations. Hundreds and thousands of Chinese ships go deep into the territorial waters of East and Southeast Asian countries every day to illegally fish. Chinese ships have even entered the Galapagos Islands for illegal fishing. China is an empire of greed.

Imagine more than 450 miles from China and 140 miles from Philippines yet they claimed it theirs, PH won the arbitral tribunal and China won't accept it, just how unjustified and disrespecting this is. And after they overcome the Philippines' islands they hastily build military base and harassed Filipino fishermen.
