What is A/B testing, you ask?
A/B testing basically means you make a variation of your content and test it against your original content. You can test everything from web design, to videos, to emails.
So if you wanted to see how you can improve a contact form on your website, you would make a new form and compare its performance against the old form. The "winner" of the A/B test would be the form that has the better conversion rate, meaning more people filled it out.
A/B testing goes along with conversion rate optimization, which is a marketing tactic that aims to increase the rate at which people take action on your content.
A conversion doesn't necessarily have to be a purchase, but it can be. Examples of other conversions include downloading something from your website or signing up for your emails.
Amy has some A/B testing examples to inspire you with your own testing.
How do you run an A/B test?
Use the scientific method. We'll explain how each step relates to your tests. Don't worry. We had to Google the steps, too.
You'll need to use some A/B testing software to run your tests. This software includes Google Optimize, Optimizely, and Visual Website Optimizer. You can also analyze how people use your website with tools like Crazy Egg, Hotjar, and Userlytics.
What are some tips for A/B testing?
1. Test only one element at a time
2. Don't just test things that are broken. Try to make something that works even better.
3. Don't be afraid to take risks.
