Yes! I agree with this list, I can tell this person read the manga, and is smart.
Obanai, should be number one, his backstory stand out the most. It's so sad, horrifying, and just tragic.
Mine is similar to this list, but I would put Gyomei in second place, and Sanemi third.

Now that I think about it, shinobu and muichiro’s has the same alike backstory

Shinobu: her parents died by a demon in front of her eyes to be saved by Gyomei.
Muichiro: his parents died as well but his dad was trying to cure the mother’s illness but they both died..

Shinobu: kanae \and shinobu weee left by themselves with only the help on Gyomei.
Muichiro: him and his twin brother were also left alone and had many resources so they could survive.

Shinobu: he sister died by an upper moon demon and she saw her sister as she slowly died
Muichiro: he saw his brother die in front of him.

Shinobu: she died by the demon who kiled her sister while trying to seek revenge
Muichiro: he was able to kill the demon who kiled his twin and died by his own grandfather who was uppermoon 1.

3. Muichiro (His story is underrated. His brother's dead body was eaten by worms, and then they spread to Muichiro's body. He watched this for several days. At the age of 11, he was left completely alone, there was no one who could support him. He also suffered the trauma of amnesia. Let's be honest, his story is much worse than Giyuu's or Shinobu's. These two had support from the outside, but Muichiro was left completely alone with his thoughts)

Shinobu : both of her parents died all of her family even died except her sister 😢 and they was the best sibling everrr but then her sister Kanae was trying to kill douma but then she died then Shinobu become alone and she was so sad all the times but she always smile because kanae before she died for a minute she told her to smile every time

Tengen at 6 is Crazy. Tengen was born and raised as a Shinobi with incredible harsh training, One Day his bad Father wanted to see who was the Strongest. He put mask on them, so they didn’t know they were killing eachother, Tengen killed his brothers Unknowingly except for one. Once Tengen found out he told the last Brother, but that brother became cold and heartless and just wanted to kill Tengen and be like his Father. So Tengen was Also Betrayed by his Brother. The Only People he’s with now is his wives.

My opinion:
1. Sanemi: Family killed besides Genya, killed his mom, Genya called him a monster for saving his life, sanemi’s dad was abusing the rest of his family ( mainly the mother)
2. Obanai Reason: just friggin brutal
3. Tengen Reason: Killed his family, bad childhood
4. Gyomei: Dead children besides one, blind, cries all the time
5. Shinobu Reason: Dead parents, dead sister, dead tgustko (besides Kanao, ) puts poison in herself just to avenge her sister, fake smiles, holds all her rage inside of her
6. Muichiro Reason: similar to Shinobu’s backstory but I still think Shinobu’s is sadder
7. Giyu Reason: Dead parents, dead sister, dead friend, hates himself
8. Rengoku Reason: Dead mother, abusive dad still not as sad as the other ones
9. Mitsuri Reason: I don’t even have to explain this one

ok in my opinion I think Sanemis backstory is the worst because even though I haven’t read the manga where we see his backstory but in the anime (spoilers ahead⚠️) first his father left then his mother turned into a demon and murbered his siblings (expect for Genya) and then he took his mother outside but then the sun came up and she started to crumble and Genya started to call him a mürberer but I think obanais backstory is sad too my case is closed 👍

Shinobu would definitely be much higher or atleast higher than rengoku and mabey tengen there is no way rengoku’s backstory is more sad but if you not a manga reader ill keep quiet
