As a Meshuggah fan, I would say it took me a while to get used to the voice.. Now I just love Jens Kidman voice, the intensity and rawness of his singing just makes Meshuggah scale to a new level.

As someone who hated the vocals first, they grow on you. Once you realise they have they own rythm and patterns, that it's really another rythmic instrument, you'll like it, and appreciate it for what it is: a very good voice. The more you listen and pay attention, the more you realize how good his vocals are, they are very pure and accurate, as much as the rest of the band.
And if you think about it, any other voice and writing (more "harmonious") wouldn't fit the music any better than this one.

I might be a bit off here but as I recall he has always played Sonor drums, Sabian Cymbals, Remo drumheads and Wincent sticks. He has some custom sizes on the toms and he has some cymbals that are no longer in production like his left side hi-hats. He has a damaged foot and hand which has formed his way of playing especially in later years. You may notice his right hand is basically what keeps time for most of their songs.

"Violent Sleep Of Reason" of the same album is another masterpiece of a song that I would recommend. It is slower and groover with very smooth transitions and complex patterns.

I know I’m a year late but if you’re a big fan of the instrumental then check out “They Move Below” off their most recent album if you haven’t already. Almost a 10 minute song but it’s meditative 😅super cool

Nobody listens to meshuggah the first time and is keen on the vocals. It’s an acquired taste. Keep doing some more shuggah reactions you may fall victim 😎
