I'm a second plane fan but there is a good reason for first when I was a pest control specialist the ability to accurately range quickly was a game changer. They both their place and over lap to a point

As a farmer who switches my rifles from fun long range stuff to field work including hunting, a FFP scope is an absolute pain.
And for long range, SFP is absolutely fine, aftef all, you range tge distance, adjust your elevation and shoot.
I tried FFP and realised its all marketing in action and advice from google shooters.

FFP!
I really enjoy being able to measure with the reticle and dialing the turrets to that measurement!

SFP for Benchrest, a Nightforce Competition 15-55X52. Just a time proven great scope.

Thanks, 🙏 great to see another Aussie video talking about zero tech.
I’m keen to get one of theirs but still can’t decide on 2.5-15 thrive hd illuminated or hunter LR 4-16 FFP. For hunting and bench. I like the FFP reticle as maybe a chance to learn about drop and such, but I’m worried that sitting it on 4x zooms hunting, even with illumination could be far worse than just SFP 2.5-16 that is very versatile for hunting and still decent for range.

Good video. I own both styles, as you stated both have advantages/disadvantages. I have learned to use both, and I adjust accordingly. 👍🏽👍🏽

SFP for me. Thanks!!! I don't see too many guys shooting sub 1" groups at 400 yards either. Carry on.. SFP works much better for hunting as well.

At longer ranges past 800m or more a lot of the prs shooters dial back to see the surroundings and impacts. The mil or moa marks tell at how far off that shot was, and the reticle allows for immediate, exact hold to correct in the same conditions. That's were first focal plane shines. For hunting with foliage 2nd focal plane.
At most hunting distances a red dot sight will do unless one is varmint hunting.
It is amazing how good affordable scopes became.

Awesome info there mate and I totally agree with what you said. FFP can be a pain when on the lower mag range. Keep up the great work.

G'Day Allen, great work on the FFP vs SFP. I run FFP for my scopes as i like to know my references for my target adjustments. Keep up the great videos

Im an odd chose sfp for specific got into prs 22 and centerfire prs....

Still running sfp for prs22.... I am experimenting with a ffp scope for centerfire.... but at this time i prefer the sfp still .... you just have to be on certain magnification to use holds with the reticle
