Autism vs. Aspergers

JUST TO BE CLEAR: Aspergers isn't used as a diagnosis that much anymore and is now just Autism Spectrum Disorder with low support needs, this video outlines the older way of identification.

Autism and Aspergers - two unique facets of the same extraordinary prism. 🌟✨ While they share many common traits, they also have their own distinctive shades. 🎨💡

For those unfamiliar, Autism often brings a world filled with boundless creativity, intense passions, and an extraordinary perspective on life. 🌠💫💭 On the other hand, Aspergers, a high-functioning form of Autism, gifts individuals with incredible attention to detail, exceptional memory, and a penchant for diving deep into their interests. 📚🕵♂

One of the most beautiful things about both is the way they allow people to see the world through a different lens. 🌏🔍 It's like having a secret superpower that only they understand, and it's pretty darn awesome! 💪🦸‍♀

But let's remember, it's not always easy. There are unique challenges that come with each, and it's important to support and uplift one another. 🤗💪❤

So, as we celebrate the uniqueness of Autism and Aspergers, let's also raise awareness, promote understanding, and foster an inclusive world where everyone feels valued and cherished. 💛🌍

Asperger's is no longer a diagnosis. It now falls under Level One Autism. Low support needs, more mild symptoms. Level Two is more severe symptoms and significant support needs, but generally does okay overall. Profound Autism is Level Three. Highest support needs, likely need full time assistance, may not be able to take care of themselves at all.

I honestly dont get why everyones hating on this guy he has said that he knows the term is outdated and just uses the term to describe conditions like the pre defined term aspergers which still do exist within asd. Many people are simply letting emotion control them. Hes not saying anyone is better than anyone its just purely from a medical standpoint.

I wish people would stop calling him ablest or offensive for just using the label he was diagnosed with and prefers to use.

You said people with autism struggle with learning the skill of communication and mostly none verbal. I didn’t speak until I was 7 years old but I can talk now and sometimes don’t shut up. I am autistic not Aspergers. I quit few autistic people who are verbal so being autistic doesn’t mean you will be or always be non verbal.

Don't get me wrong I love your content, all of it, rather the long videos, mostly you're accurate and love your fresh approach and enterviews, there's a need for first hand activism through testimonials

Need some polish on the wording dough, and just ditch that whole asperger thing

I'd be much more interested to see a comparison of the traits of Aspergers vs PDA as they are 2 very different presentations of autistic symptoms

Ones considered outdated and ableistic, and isn't really used anymore.

Asparger is an autism spectrum and is not diagnosed anymore as there is ICD-11 now. Elon Musk confirmed long time ago that he is Aspie. Einstan was non-verbal and very inteligent - there is no connections here. That one od the reasons why Asparger is not diagnosed anymore.

It’s a HUGE red flag when someone says that Aspergers means you are smarter because it is an outdated term and IQ does not equate to how intelligent someone is. Also the history of the condition is very misogynistic as women were not diagnosed and were considered to be unable to be autistic causing decades of alienation because they were just “slow”. The term is still being debated but many people consider Aspergers to be a way people try to identify themself as better than other autistic people. The term is very offensive to many people.

Agree with everyone here - look up the history of Asperger's and you'll see why it's an inappropriate term for ASD

This was outdated before this video was even made. What, did you have ChatGPT cook up your script??

My son was sort of diagnosed aspergers syndrome years ago but they sort of brushed it under the carpet and didn't statement him he's 22 now I have adhd and he's similar to me the reason they did not make it official is because it would hinder him getting employment. He could have both? So if he was to pursue a diagnosis what route should he go down 1st the asd or adhd route?

I agree with number one completely and I can see that with others with it, including myself. I'm currently in college right now. The career I'm currently doing is one of the things you can find in a science field.

Can someone tell me when the term Asperger's became outdated? My son was diagnosed in 2021.

My therapist said, i would have been diagnosed with aspergers some years ago. I have no problem with beeing called Autistic.
Also, i heavily disagree with this generalisation you did in this short-video. That is not just wrong, but also discriminative mate.

I have asbergers and I love and need verbal communication. I hate non verbal communication like nodding or shaking head or body language. it’s difficult to understand and remember to pay attention to and I’d just rather people use their damn words if they can. I’m not great at remembering verbal directions without seeing them written, but I feel so ignored if someone only nods or shakes their head when answering questions. this is one reason I think asbergers and autism should be separate because verbal communication is necessary for me while for a lot of autistic people it’s unhelpful.

Thing is, Asperger's is not a term used anymore. You just have to use the term "high-functioning". If it comes up, I usually just say I'm on the spectrum and that I have what used to be know as Asperger's

The professionals had a hard time deciding who to call autistic and who to call Asperger's. So they gave up and called all of it autism.

I found out that I have autism last month.
My whole life I knew I was…different.
I do comedy and realize that it is like having a cheat code due to the way my brain is wired.
It is my gift.
It is my curse.
