Paul was diagnosed 5 years ago with type 1 diabetes in a pretty severe crisis. Through very low carb (less than 30 TOTAL carbs per day), often zero, he has managed blood glucose in the normal range. The last 3 A1c readings have been right around 5.0%.

I've been a type 1 diabetic for 63 years and I can tell you the Hell that I've been through with the medical community! But, what they don't understand is that it's hard to think like a pancreas! They always blame the diabetic patient! What have you been eating?? In reality they don't know what their doing when it comes to assisting diabetic patients in how to manage this disease! I got tired of that, and 4 years ago I went pure carnivore and haven't looked back My hemoglobin a1c is 5.1. Thanks for your program, and creating health instead of just using drugs for the treatment of disease!

I’m T1 and have been for 19 years. Going carnivore has been the only thing that has helped with my levels. I was told to eat many carbs by health professionals. They make it seem like the only issue is sugar. Been eating meat and some dairy for the last few years, lost 6 stone, A1C at 5%. Never felt better. It’s almost a fairytale for many T1 diabetics. Great interview. Thanks Paul.

I've been T1 for over 50 years. Most of my life my blood glucose has been high and likely caused or at least contributed to some serious health issues. I started what I thought was a low carb diet a few years ago. I lost some weight, but my A1C was still over 7. I read Bernstein's book less than a year ago and my next A1C was 5.2 (I'm a bit loose on my near zero carb diet). This A1C made my doctor concerned and actually recommended I stop as it was not healthy! When you tell the doctor you have read Bernstein's book and that's how you got your A1C down, they make a note of it in your file. If you see another one, they see that make a negative comment. I fully agree with everything on this vid and the comments. Thank you all for sharing this.

Thank you!!! I’m type one eating low carb/high protein. My last a1c was 4.9. Dr. Bernstein is a hero. He has saved my life and my joy. Paul, I appreciate your story.

Hey guys, I know I’m a year late to this but I just want to say thank you.
I’m 25 with severe retinopathy and diabetic neuropathy issues already, I’ve changed my diet to carnivore (still learning) and I’ve felt quite alone with dealing with it. Been on the diet about 3 weeks, bloods seem okay. So enjoyed the pod to kind of reassure me.

All the best to you both and anyone trying to live even a little bit better 🙂

WOW, this guy just told my story. IMHO he is accurate and truthful; I can identify with 95 percent of all he said; have climbed the same leaning curve, from the same sources, and get my diabetes supplies from same source as he. Also agree there are far more of us than most would know, "there are thousands of us..." Also cannot say enough good about Bernstein. IMHO, he is the master teacher, and everyone else is student. Thanks Shawn, for this EXCELLENT podcast!

Never could understand why some doctors actually make diabetics eat carbohydrates? Good that some people take matters into their own hands by controlling their food intake.

Yeah that’s how we discovered it, rolled into the Er at 3 am with my 5 year old doing Kussmall breathing, glucose over 500. She was airlifted to the nearest high level PICU. Diabetes educators gave me 30-60g of carbs per meal guidelines but her levels are only stable with meat or very very low carb foods. I’m freaked out as a mom of a newly diagnosed T1.

7 months on Carnivore and I have reversed my type 2 Diabetes. I'm off all three of my diabetes meds. Off my high blood pressure meds, off my Statins, and best of all....off all anti-depressants. I'm never going back to the S.A.D.

I get the numb tongue as well, but only in numbers under
3.0 mmol/L
54 mg/dL
But VERY rarely.
Usually just get a sensation that tells me to check, like a wave of a sensation when blood sugar is getting around the hypo cut off…. but no crazy symptoms.

I always keep my Diabetes kit within arms reach, and it includes Glucose tabs.
I only treat a hypo with a measured amount of glucose just enough to pop back up over the hypo zone… not to cause a high blood sugar.
Needs very little to achieve that.
