Hypoglycemia (Low Blood Sugar) – Don’t Make This Common Mistake – Dr.Berg

In this video, Dr. Berg talks about hypoglycemia and if you should increase or decrease your carbs. In hypoglycemia, it is the high insulin that is lowering the blood sugar. Adding more carbs and protein will increase insulin – but adding more fat isn’t.

There is no problem consuming protein if you are on a low-carb diet because when you increase protein with carbs, you double the insulin response.

Symptoms of Hypoglycemia:
1. Shaky
2. Nervous
3. Dizzy
4. Hungry
5. Craving
6. Irritable

I like to think that getting energy from carbs is like teaching the body to live "paycheck to paycheck" (and snacks are like getting a payday loan with high interest) while higher fats and some proteins is like teaching the body to invest wisely for the future.

I’ve been diagnosed with hypoglycemic when I was a teenager and all the doctors always told me to eat every three hours. I was fat and I couldn’t diet at all because I was always starving. I could never had enough food, I was always hungry for more. I tried different diets then my boyfriend started watching some keto content online and I repeated to him what I had been told all my life “it’s not for me, I’m hypoglycemic, I have to eat every three hours” but it got me thinking and I started to look for more content on this thing called keto, cause it seemed to make sense specially in my case. Now, I’ve been keto (or sometimes just low carb, I admit lol) for a year now and ad no more hypoglycemic crises after quitting sugar, flours and starches. Even when I do overeat carbs, I do it by eating to much vegetables. I’m really glad I came across this type of content. Thank you!

I've been hypoglycemic since I was a young child. Started keto July 2018 and I no longer have any symptoms that plagues me for years! I even do one meal a day with no issues! Thank you Dr. Berg for all your helpful videos. I've been following you since the beginning of my keto journey.

He didn't mention nausea as a symptom of hypoglycemia: I get extremely nauseous when my bloodsugar crashes (mostly in the morning). It can be mistaken for a symptom of pregnancy, but I ve been experiencing this for years almost every morning from when I was 13.

Thank You, this works!
A friend of mine had low glucose levels, was always irritated at work, her feet and hands itchy... doctors wanted her to see a psychotherapist as she was crying every day.... she asked me - who learned from You, and she went on a healthy ketosis IF and after 4 weeks no more itching, nor irritation... she could not believe it.

First time in my life I had to deal with this, my doctor made me give up coffee and fruit and sugar and a lot of carb intake in a meal. I was to eat a high protein diet. The first 2 weeks I thought I would die from the withdrawal of caffiene but once I got through that I have never felt better in my life.

What about weightlifters? I feel hypoglycemic mostly during or after a workout, but sometimes it’s random.

Could you explain what you just explained but with food/plates. Like actually, visually show us how we shouldn't eat (with food) and show us how much (food) and what food we should be eating. Could you show us how our plates shouldn't look. And show us how our plates should look. It would be very helpful to everyone.

Hello Dr. Eric,

We greatly appreciate your videos and the valuable knowledge you share. I have an important question regarding my 4-year-old son, who was born with hypoglycemia. Could you please provide advice on how to manage his condition? Specifically, is it safe to apply a keto diet for him at this age?

Your guidance would mean a lot to us. Thank you!

I had carbs yesterday. It was to be my carb/ hard work day. But my daughter had seizures so my day went to keeping her safe and alive. Now I’m dealing with blood sugar issues today. Ate a good keto breakfast feeling better but exhausted.
