we are now in our seventies and still living with a composting toilet....to the discomfort of others and living heating with wood as we live in the winters of western New York state
been there done and doing all this stuff the younger people are suddenly discovering. or not
it is not so easy as your body get aged from the work it just takes two or being slower
I wish i did have the fast muscles to do what I did but I would not change how i have lived these past years

Absolutely brilliant, simple and direct truth!:)) Trouble is most people who have internet also live in places that are heavily regulated with building by corrupt design > most people can't simply afford land or have the freedom to build simply like this;( We must also collectively tackle these global systems of tyranny and oppression. I believe more people than we think already agree on scaling back, but are hindered in so many ways. Freedom sadly doesn't come cheap or in abundance these days.
Also, rain water isn't even pure > latest findings show micro plastic particles not just in most drinking water but even in our rain. Soil depletion as you well know IS another huge global problem which isn't discussed enough, if at all. Thank you for sort of hinting towards it in this vid;)) I hope you don't misconstrue my comments as cynical or critical....but as purely Realistic, which is actually meant with nothing but positive intent;)

This video reminds me of Frank Lloyd Wright, who always created homes that were “organic”. But I never saw the organic-ness in his work. The work in this video is much more organic than anything ever said.

When I was a little child in the 70s, I spent a couple of summers living just like this on a commune/farm in Oregon. No electricity, furniture clustered under trees, only some tents and an old farm shed for structures. The other children and I slept outside on the ground with all the animals around us - dogs, cats, ducks and a pony all allowed to roam freely and sleep with us. We bathed in the stream and ate food picked from the garden. Was it utopia? Yes and no. For me, I had it in small doses but could return home to my neighborhood where I loved going to the library and eating Popsicles from the ice cream truck. For the kids who were there full time, they were cold and wet in the winter, chronically underdressed, and once old enough, left the farm and never came back. Let's see if this couple is still as idyllic in 15 - 20 years.

We have 5 raised beds and a greenhouse waiting on me. This is an encouragement for me to plant and continue on with it. It also reminds me to do what I can. I had been considering turning our raised beds into wicking beds. We have water issues here. After watching this, it’s confirmed to me that I need to go ahead with that. We have 20 fruit trees. I can see that there is room for more… It’s good to grow and share. A lot of people here are installing fake grass. It breaks my heart. I will continue to give back to the soil. I am encouraged by this to continue to do what I can, where I am. When we rented a home in Kauai, I planted a garden in pots. I was so amazed to harvest a pineapple from a pot!

Hm...🤔 Didn't these people move 'somewhere else'? I see an idealistic view, but I don't quite understand what realistic vision they have... People moving from the UK to South Africa can't seem to be a solution.. People in the UK going back to basic, with wood fires (smoke fumes are hazardous for your health and your neighbours')...
Having the drive to make the world a better place is great, but we need more achievable ideas that can be applied by many in the world, for our planet needs a change a.s.a.p.
