Interesting video. I wasn't sure if decent consumer turntables were even still being built, but they are, and even by a couple of "old reliable" names. One of these days, I might need to break down and get one. We'll see...

I'm just a bit "old school." Long ago, I made what was at the time a "huge" investment in what I swore was the last turntable I'd ever buy. It's United Audio Dual 1019. Bought it in 1969, and with a little care, and an ADC XLM Mk III cartridge tracking at 3/4 gram, it still plays vinyl with absolute accuracy. The promise to myself that it would be my last just might hold true. They built them to last back then.  :-)

Pro-Ject makes some great turntables. Some are more expensive but the Debut III is similarly priced to some in this video.  B&H should carry the line.

Best beginner record player is the Audio Technica LP60... Get a pair of speakers and you're done until you get some serious money to get a better one in the future... But it wont destroy your records

The Vestax portable takes 6 "D" size 1.5v batteries.  Not 6 9 volt batteries as stated.

It's sad that Vestax went out of business.  We are "turntablists" and that company has made really good instruments (dj mixers) for us.

lol on the Denon description..."no frills, fully automatic"
uuummmm, fully auto is a pretty big frill where turntables are concerned.

Most of these turntables aren't really "wishlist worthy." Most of them are just going to disappoint.

I bought a VPI scout, but when it arrived the Ortofon 2M Black cartridge didn't have a stylus. It was broken off. The company I bought it from said they tested it before packing and sending it to me. I opened the turntable, no stylus, so I haven't used it since I bought it in March. VPI is a ugly turntable and they're overpriced. I'm selling it, without the missing stylus but the cartridge is still on it.

Don't get the Ion, the tracking weight of the cartridge is too heavy and will damage your records over time
