“Oh boy,” Walter Cronkite said, “Oh boy it looks good,” as the Saturn 5 rocket lifted off into the sky on July 16, 1969.

My mother was pregnant with me when this happened. Watching this is fascinating because it happened right before I was born. It struck me as I was watching this and remembering things like the Space Shuttle program were all things that we stopped what we were doing to watch and they were things that brought us all together. I wish we could still have those moments. I feel sorry for the younger generations, because I can't remember the last time we had a positive moment like this or the Shuttle that brought us all together as a nation. I hope that they can make moments that bring us all together like it used to be.

I was ever so blessed to have been old enough July 1969 ...16 years old to be exact, to see this historic event live..the whole world stopped and we were as one, if only for the countdown to lift off to the 🌝 moon..man what a time it was..👏🙏👍

Watched it to the second, 50 years on. Hairs stood up on the back of my neck. Here's hoping we'll be on the way back soon.

My uncle, Starke T. Cline, Electrical Engineer, University of Tennessee graduate, worked in the early space program in Huntsville under Wernher Von Braun in Guidance and Control, and later on the Lunar Rover. He and his team developed a unique and vital gyroscope for several space flights and missions. Today, my hat is off to him and all the other early ""rocket men" who helped this nation be the first and best in space exploration. I lived this very exciting time.

"The building's shaking!" Legendary. Maybe soon we can see NASA's new SLS moon rocket fly magnificently like this!

I was 7 YO but boy do I remember this!

Only thing, I remember being irritated they talked a lot of rubbish instead of doing the proper countdown to zero. (I did know how to count down from 10 to 0 in English...)

Wonderful seeing all the comments from people celebrating the 50th anniversary of the launch and beginning of the mission.

We need to go back.... When I was a kid I was promised the Moon and Mars and the Stars above. I want to give that to my niece.
