Another interesting image for Analytic Ne that showed up in the Personality Hacker discussion was that of laying tracks just ahead of the train curious to find out where it will go.

While I think my normal form of Ne is more Holistic, I tend to switch into the Analytic form when put in any type of leadership position, like when I was teaching. I was always the teacher with the open-ended projects curious to see how outlandish the results would be and happy to give good marks as long as there was clear thought behind the work.

Wow, I’m definitely a yin NE user. The whole pinging and Jenga tower thing is spot on., and the watching, seeing, crafting the magic part. I can’t explain how it happens, it just does and it’s usually pretty accurate. Paying attention to how and when to give something a nudge to manifest a moment… I plan to to get this book for a deeper dive.

I'll offer another point of view on this.. I'm a massive fan of Beebe's theory on what are known as the Cultural Attitudes - which is about learning to use pairs of "inverse"(?) functions together, Ne+Se, Ni+Si, Fi+Ti and Fe+Te. He identifies Ne+Se as "the Aesthetic Attitude". I perceive an important difference between Ne that's "bonded" with Se, and Ne that's totally "un-bonded". It's really one of those, "when you see it you can't unsee it" things. People with super low Se, it's like they can see and hear fine but their brain doesn't prioritise pulling in and processing that stream of data. I sometimes jokingly refer to it as the "eye of Sauron" that they're totally unaware of anything unless they chose to focus on it, chose to fire up the "Se" in their brain's task manager, they're aware only of what they chose to be aware of. When an Ne users has more Se they are more dynamically aware of their surroundings and that meshes with the creativity and possibilities of Ne. So in Dario Nardi's example, I suspect the ENFP test subject is Ne-Se, she's hyperaware of her surroundings and she's applying her Ne to brain-storming to interpret what's going on around her. A low Se *N*P would probably be more off in their own head daydreaming, brainstorming thoughts and ideas that are more internal. Same with directions, Ne-Se are dynamically aware of their surroundings and are subconsciously pulling in cues and connecting to memory and an abstract sense of place and have a great sense of direction. Without Se, you're brain isn't prioritising awareness of your surrounding, you''re not picking up all those cues and you have no idea where you are and terrible directions. I might call the Ne-Se user the "Navajo Tracker". The ability to intuitively pull in a thousand data points from their surroundings with Se, then use Ne to brainstorm what those datapoints represent and then find the scenario that matches those thousand data points.

In my personal life I believe I am probably a yin NE user. For my work I’ve trained to do the yang part in order to be able to do my job. As an artist it’s necessary to so that I can network and sell myself as well as convince actors/directors that what I’ve created is the best idea for a collaboration. Entertainment is always a circus so you have to be able to come up with a bunch of ideas and see what works. But I also use the holistic side in my spare time to observe and gather ideas for that for future use.
