Whenever I'm looking for wall studs, after I find a nail, I check above and below to find a couple more. There was one wall where I ran into a few false positives and when checked up and down didn't find more so I assumed there was no stud there. Eventually I found the correct studs. I don't know why there was extra metal in the wall, but I always check for a few nails vertically to make sure. The other benefit is I've done work on older houses and the nails are not always in the center, so by checking up and down I can "average" the ones I found to approximate the center better.

My wife and I both love the videos!
I remember this magnet trick from your earlier videos. Great idea I've used ever since. Anyway the answers are
1) Rare earth or Neodymium magnet
2) Stud Pop
3) 450 mm or 16" on centre.
Here's hoping we're lucky.
Take care in these difficult times.

Absolute legend mate, did this today to hang a tv bracket, no drill holes in my wall that I didn’t need 👌🏼 in saying that tho my studs were 600mm apart not 450mm but like I said didn’t miss a stud so like it matters 👍

I was going to say nothing new here but then you did the 4’ up from the floor to look for the drywall seam. Yet another piece of info to consider for times when finding a stud is a real bear. Thanks.

Neodymium magnets they are. Used this method for many years. Works on lots of applications. I’ve now got a wee bundle of them. They’re great. As you say, no batteries needed. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
