Tip: Attach the chainring to the inside of the crankset, making it central to the cassette and a perfect chain alignment. Use the washers on the bottom bracket to guide you, if the alignment is too near the inside of cassette, towards the frame, if needed. Very important.

Should note, you don’t have replace the front crank set if you are short on funds. You can just remove all the chain rings and attach 1x narrow wide. It’s how I’ve done a 1-by conversion when I couldn’t afford it. You can save a lot of money this way since you don’t need new cranks set and tools for the crank set.

Some one mentioned you put the narrow wide chain ring on the outside position on the crank. You really want to see whats really going on with alignment. Take a look from the back of the bike. looking across the chain, to see the offset alignment between the front and rear. Now you can see, on the 1x conversion putting the 1x ring on the center position is the correct way.

Hello straight from Poland, from Warsaw, nice movie, although I never recommend Chinese parts, but I am full of admiration for you that you do everything yourself and only with the tools you have in your garage, which is just like me, I have already subscribed to your channel, there is not much now people who make videos about older bike models, go on, some of your videos help me with my own repairs and rework. Thanks, take care and stay well

I agree with you 100%, I absolutely hate a front derailleur on a mountain bike, period. Whoever invented the narrow wide chain ring set up I commend to no end, what a fantastic idea that has worked out so well for me. I believe the fewer parts on a mountain bike the better as long as all your bike parts work well for their intended function. Keep up making good instructional videos😎😎😎

Three points: Normally with this kind of crank you would install a single chainring on the INSIDE (toward bottom bracket) so that you have the proper chainline. This will be especially important if you put on wide range cassette. Second, no need for that much grease when installing the BB, it just attracts dirt. The spinning of the crank takes place due to the sealed bearings. Third, a two piece bottom bracket usually comes with a plastic inner sleeve that runs between the two halves and serves to minimize contamination.

If you do this 1X conversion and convert to a more modern cassette and derailleur, I have found it is best to put the chainring on the inside of the cranks and remove any bottom bracket spacers from the drive side. Otherwise, your chain is too far out of line with the largest gears and causes issues (noisy pedaling, chain drops down gears if pedal backwards, etc.)

I really appreciate this video.Because, as you know, these cranks came with absolutely no instructions.I wasn't sure how many spacers to use.It seems like everybody uses one spacer for a 73 mm bottom bracket.I also appreciate you showing me how to use that tool on the opposite of the drive side to tighten up the cranks.

Here is a hack: Hang an old tire from the celling, hook your saddle in it and you've got a repair stand.

Awesome! For me, 3ple chainring and front shifter is perfect for bike commuting and long distance riding. 1by is perfect for trails.

Finally someone installed them correctly. Install the preload cap first, add grease to the BB, and add thread lock to the chainring bolts. Great job! Now it's time to upgrade the cassette and drivetrain. :(

Keep this series up because my bike is like this and I've wanted a single speed for ages

Switched from 3x8 to 1x8 when the chainring of my commute bike was worn out using the exact same kit. Works like a charm.

Just did the same to my 2011 Giant, rides far better now. Crazy finding your channel at the exact time I'm doing all the same things.

I did the same thing to a Trek Marlin 5 and the weight savings alone makes it worth it.
You should weigh that stuff in the bin and just see how much that stuff alone weighs.
I now have a 1X, tubeless and an air fork and now my bike feels lighter than my road bike lol...

Love the Zelda music!!! And I can recomend to use a chain guide, that rear derailleur doesn't have block to make the chain more stable and avoid the chain to out from the crankset, but with a chain guide you can solve the problem of chain. :D
