Nurse Residency Program

My name is Tracy Sobiesienski, I am the director of education.

I work with students coming in (the new nurses), and kind of meet them at the door and train them with all they need to be successful in their role here.

I also work with the nurses on the floor with their continuing education as well.

I’m excited about our residency program that we have. This is brand new for us—new graduate nurses that are coming into the hospital will spend thirteen weeks in addition to their normal orientation going to different areas of the hospital: ED, ICU, telemetry, IMCU and labor & deliver, and see how those department work.

Then also we’ll do some shadowing in respiratory, lab, pharmacy and other areas to see how they work as well, so that when you’re off your orientation, you’re working on the floor, you know how these departments work, how their workflow is.

So when they tell you they need something a certain way, you understand the why. And I think as nurses we all love to understand the why

This program will help our new graduates be more well-rounded nurses at the end of it.
