The 1999 version was so much better. In the 2011 version, Gon just said "I want to find my dad"... but in the 1999 version, it's executed so much better. Gon said he didn't want to rely on his fishing rod, or in other words, his father's strength. In the 2011 version, Gon just said "I have a feeling I'll never find my dad if I quit now" when told by Hanzo to just take the exam again; but in the 1999 version, Gon elaborated that using a weapon against Hanzo would be him depending on his father. ... I DID wonder in the 2011 version why Gon didn't use his fishing rod. Ugh... the 2011 exam arc is just so bad compared to the 1999 one.

After having watched the 2011 HxH anime, this feels like going from the 2010s Jojo's Bizarre Adventure anime to the 90's adaptation of Stardust Crusaders. I feels darker and grittier and more mystique than the newer anime.

Both versions of this fight definitely have their own merits, so it's funny to me how many people there are in this comment section who seem to have it out for the 2011 version.

It's funny how Hanzo is doing all that shouting about how Gon has underestimated him, but the truth is that he has vastly underestimated Gon. This was never about fighting strength.

I feel like if we were quantifying will, that boy may have more of it than anyone else in the room. Simply because he's out of his mind.

this is cool but so many filler here... why would killua help gon when he was angry that he supposedly didn't have much potencial like gon? i know 99 version developed more their relationship at this point and based on killua's personality he would definitely help gon but i prefer following the manga, 1999 style is awesome tho

None of you all got any taste wtf, the writing in this version is as orrible as writing can get, its obnoxious and boring, in the 2011 version it at least was interesting to watch and not dragged out crap
