It`s interesting you say your crank is really hard. When I converted mine to center bearing I trued up the runout on center journal with a simple parting tool in the lathe. I was surprised at how soft it was. Super easy to machine. Possibly Toyans varying hardness techniques contribute to breakages. Center bearing still going strong after weeks of abuse. Also 4 cylinder in line cranks are the easiest of all cranks to balance. No need for bobweights that you need on a 90* V8.

I’ve met Gary Conley a few times and have heard the 609 run multiple times and they do sound awesome. But my favorite has got to be the Bouland Motors Cosworth V8. I have seen the Bouland Cosworth first hand as well and I was blown away with how well it runs, let alone it’s build quality. I actually gave it a couple revs and it was so responsive, they are built to be ran and will rev to the moon. I enjoy all of the little engines and we are spoiled to have so many! Thanks for the video!

A crankshaft moving back and forth is called thrust and even full size engines are susceptible to it. Too much thrust clearance. You'd have to customize the crank to tighten the clearance. Sometimes bolting it up to a transmission can help too

Thanks for the info I love v8 design information. It makes sense why you like engines, you worked with them.
I plan on just running methanol fuel for my v8 for now.

The four cylinder block (and most likely all), are cast, not machined from billet, saves cost.

And I seriously doubt it's got any kind of thrust bearing setup as well

I had ported heads, over drive, 2 stage nitrous plates, 3 carb for lean out, dry sump oil system, was going to do 2 plugs a cylinder, high pressure fuel pumps, but needed a distributor from Gary Omar.. that builds the Conley v8 now. He doesn’t want to build 609s. I had a guy willing to build a timing cover that mounted on the 327 version, that allowed for distributor like hemi. Kenny M, knows what I’m talking about. Ask him if you don’t believe me

You're a wealth of knowledge, keep it up.

I've seen videos of old 350s turned into flat plane crank engines. Pretty incredible.

Put a thrust bushing in it what you're talking about is the thrust back and forward is what is destroying the pins

WHY are they not paying you!?!??? Your obviously better than the engineer's they're using. JMO 👍👍👍✌️
