I'm doing to do my monotub like that. I have 6 big holes and 8 little ones lower but it definitely was not set and forget. It was fruiting good and all of the sudden, they started to deteriorate. I was trying to water it without water logging it and only misting the sides but they look like they were drying out.
However, there were mistakes made because it add a little contamination so I was kind of careless with it, but then it recovered.
