Avoid These Mistakes When Growing Lions Mane Mushrooms

Hey DirtMagicians! Today Bri is going to share a lesson about growing mushrooms that she learned the hard way.

Everything was going great until one day her mushrooms suddenly turned brown and crunchy. This was because she had made tow mistakes; which was directly spraying the mushrooms once they had formed and not using the humidity tent bag given to her. This led to bacterial blotch and basically stopped their growth.

To prevent this from happening, it’s important to remember that once mushrooms have formed, you should switch from spraying the substrate to spraying just inside the humidity bag itself and NOT the mushrooms. AND don’t forget the importance of the humidity tent (aka plastic bag with holes)

Growing mushrooms can be a rewarding experience (not to mention you’ll get to learn all about the mushroom growth process). Just make sure you avoid the same mistake I made! We at DirtMagicians believe that sharing your failures provides just as much learning as your successes.

Whats something in your garden you failed at but learned from, let us know in the comments?

God damn why is it so hard for others to specify spraying the BAG not the mushroom... Such a crucial detail completely missed in most videos. Thank you!

Just spray with boiled/distilled water instead to avoid any bacteria. I spray my mushrooms all the time

I always use the syringe that comes with the mushroom bag to keep the substrate moist. Just inject bottled water into the substrate.

I usually dunk the new myoculture in water for a second, make my openings, spray the inside of the humidity bag, and cover while not allowing the box touch the bag.

I’m growing it but it’s pink, that means I didn’t get enough sunlight, I could still eat it

Thank you!! I have been spraying the tent but not the substrate. Now I'll spray the substrate. I haven't been getting any growth (well, not fully true... A small part of it at the back of the package started to sprout in the humidity).

Get a drip feeder and slot it in, the mycelium will tap and redistribute it

You can also spray it with iodine to kill off bad bacteria

There’s no solution to the bacterial blotch once it happened???
