I think i saw some false morels here in ca theyre sparse and the caps were a dark greyish black. Near oak trees and also near chanterelles.
Also phalloides pops up.

If you follow the rule of nature. Colorful and bright things are toxic while ugly and plain looking things are safe you'd still be screwed with mushrooms

The monomethyl hydrazine in the mushrooms can actually be cooked out of the mushrooms, making them edible. However the monomethyl hydrazine becomes vaporized and can still kill you.

In Michigan we get those what some people call beef steaks they look like the morel mushrooms and I love eating them I’ve never got sick off them I’ve always heard people tell me not to eat that people died from them but I love them better than morels just fry them with butter season them up. Idk why people say they make rocket fuel with them never heard that they come up in the spring time around Mother’s Day depending on the weather
