Shuttle Tatting for Beginners - Transferring the Knot

I hope this video with a large shuttle and satin cord will help make the transferring of the knot more clear and easier to understand for those who are finding it difficult to get started with shuttle tatting.

The large shuttle I am using is a "Tatsy" which I have modified by adding a hook. I purchased mine from Handy Hands online.

Thank you. My Grammy taught me when I was 10 yrs old. I have her shuttles and have asked everywhere for lessons for 50 years. Honestly, no one was interested. Your video is clear!!! I hope to learn more about tatting. I am near 80 yrs old, but still quite dexterous.

The best description/demonstration of shuttle tatting I've seen by far. Thank you! The larger cord & slow hand movements made this so much easier to follow. I've been limiting myself to needle tatting because I dipaired of ever being able to understand how shuttle tatting works. I think I've finally got it! 😁😘😘😘

You’re the first person I’ve seen where you thoroughly explain the process of flipping the knot onto the other chord. This helped a lot, thank you!

I literally just said out loud "Thank you lady" lol. I am so excited to begin tatting. Your explanation was to the point without being condescending. Loved it!

I'm just picking up tatting again after a long hiatus, and while transferring the knot came back to me easily, I couldn't remember how to handle the thread and shuttles efficiently. I was struggling all over the place, each knot a chore, until I found your video, and now the two halves of the stitches are coming along "zip-zip!" again. Thank you!

OMG, you show it so slowly and clearly! Why do others rush it, like everyone knows what's supposed to be happening? Thanks so much!

I've watched so many tatting videos, and this the first time I understood flipping the knot. Brilliant to use a larger cord. Thank you!

I found a book from 1934 about tatting at my local creative reuse shop on Friday . Thank you so much for sharing this! I’m about to go to sleep but I’m stoked to try in the morning 😊😊

Phenomenal explanation! Thank you so much! This was the first video where I could see everything clearly and understand how it all worked. I was finally able to do the double stitch!

I have tried tatting off and on over the last 20 years. This is the first time it is making sense in my head because you explained the flipping of the knot. Thank you so much!

As everyone else said, this made my brain click 😂 thank you so much! I kept watching these videos and hearing 'flip the knot' and no amount of watching and rewatching of other videos was doing the trick. You explained it so well!

I found this gadget (which I now know is a shuttle) at a secondhand store. I collect little odd items. I found out what it was and decided to see how it works. Having never done anything even remotely close to this, I used your video and was able to make 6 stitches. They're certainly not the best, but I did it. Thank you so much for your instructions!!! Now I have a new rabbit hole to go down. ☺️

I've found this video after 2 years and I still think you've done an awesome job of explaining especially about transferring the knot. Thank you again and again.

This is one of the best beginner shuttle tatting videos I've ever seen. I love the large cord. When I learned to shuttle tat I actually used a large cord so I could see and study the mechanics of the technique and learn what was happening. Your instructions are so clear and you move slow enough that people can actually see what is happening. I also love that your work surface is so clean and clear because it allows people to concentrate on what you are doing without being distracted with a lot of stuff in the background. Thank you for sharing. :)

Thanks Frivole. I struggled with this for days and eventually gave up. I picked up my shuttle again, 6 months later and found this video. The fact that you took so much time and worked so slowly, has allowed me to make my first ring! Thank you so very much! ❤

You make it look so easy thank you. My step mother made and got ribbons at fairs for her work. I never knew her, but I now have some of her beautiful work and her equipment, now I can learn to use it. Thank you.
