The fact this guy got fired from EA because even they thought his ideas of monetization were ridiculous tells you everything you need to know about his level of greed

Kotick may destroy Blizzard but, this guy can destroy half of the industry, what a genius

Note to game devs or engine makers, don't hire the scummy people from EA if you want to keep your fans and their loyalty. You can hire the good guys, just don't get the greedy ones.

When he said “the cogs is really low” what he is referring to is COGS: Cost Of Goods Sold. Meaning, it costs them nothing to sell you that ammo reload. So any amount they charge, no matter how large or small, is pure profit. No work effort or materials went into the creation of that ammo reload they sold to you.

It's actually amazing, the CEO can say ridiculous statement like that and think it's justifiable. The guy was so clouded by greed and love for profit so much.

Never once did he advocate for the player. His job isn't to make the player happy, it's to make his shareholders happy. What a waste of life to live this way.

Its crazy how this kind of psychopaths rise to the top of their fields, nobody ever question them, it shows how we value money more than anything else.

Proof how it takes years to build up reputation, moments to lose it all

I worked for EA when this guy was CEO. It was insane. You had bootlickers with framed photos of this guy on their desks talking about how great he was and how excited they were for him to come visit. It was peak tier dystopia.

-"Can you learn this power?"
Turns menacingly*
-"Not from an Unreal engine developer...."

This reminds me of this one guy back in WW2. He was in the SS and the other SS guys wanted to get rid of him because they thought he was too brutal and over the top. If the greediest company fired you for being too greedy then that should sound the alarm bells.

Imagine a marketing ploy is so good it works even on you and your idea is that it's a good thing and you can make it "better" 💀

"Why are you complaining? Do you guys not have microtransactions?" - Unity CEO

"You're not really price sensitive at that point in time." In other words, you're not able to make sound financial decisions, and that's the moment they want to spring a microtransaction on you. I hope that most of us can understand why it would make sense from a logical perspective, but also why it's hella unethical. The basis of commerce has always been mutual benevolence, and every transaction should improve the lives of both parties. While we're a bit more civilized today, scamming your customers was once a good way to get yourself hanged. It's a shame these big corporations no longer fear consequences, and it's a shame we've become so passive that we just allow them to get away with crap like this. Looks like people might not take this one lying down for once, though.

TBH, the best thing for Unity right now would be to roll back the changes completely and fire the CEO. They can blame the whole thing on him and most people would probably be willing to believe it. Whatever they did after that, though, everyone would be watching very closely before they're willing to trust them again. No matter what they do, it looks like Unity might be in for some rough times.

People like this should be put in jail and charged for every meal and shit they take cause at this point they are not that price-sensitive.

That's why I instantly drop something when I realize it isn't good anymore. Sadly a lot of people can't do the same.

Wasn't this dude in charge of EA during the point where EA was considered the worst company in America for three consecutive years?

I love(hate) how part of his logic is basically "I've personally spent $5000 a year on micro-transactions so clearly every player can too", this man is not only greedy as shit he's literally detached from the average gamer and thinks we have way more money than we actually have.

This is the guy who made everyone hate EA and turned EA into a meme, he was the guy who propagated microtransactions in the sports titles which then made their way into every other EA title, he was the guy who screwed over Warhammer Online, He was the guy responsible for everything we have now in games because he took something which other publishers toyed with and made it mainstream. Not sure how he managed to keep on the down low for years at Unity and resist what he is now doing till now.
