It would be good to also cover other pertinent military events of the period.

In 1064, three battles in Brittany against Conan II.

In 1068, siege of Exeter; a battle against Harold’s sons in the Southwest; various battles in the North.

1069 was very busy: two battles in one day against Harold’s sons in Devon; the great battle of Stafford; siege of Ely; multiple sieges of York; battles galore in the North.

February 1091 saw the Norman Conquest in reverse: an English army invaded Normandy. There it met Pope Urban II, and agreed to partition the Duchy.

2:55 The Bayeux Tapestry shows a different sequence.
(1) Earls Leofwine and Gyrth advance. According to other sources, this is when William fell off his horse and was attacked by Earl Gyrth.
(2) The Breton cavalry, heedless of losses, rush the Earls from left, centre and right, with Alan Rufus leading the counter-attack on Earl Gyrth.
(3) One of William’s bodyguards sneaks up on Gyrth and stabs him in the back.
(4) The Norman cavalry are still fleeing.
(5) Odo of Bayeux urges them to return.
(6) William, now mounted on a fresh horse, reveals his face.
(7) The Norman centre rallies.
