I could spend hours watching this scene leaving myself wrapped in its incredible charm. After so many years I wonder how on earth they managed to create the Molosar entrance with this effectiveness. It still creeps up today. Certainly one of Mann's most troubled and misunderstood films.

This is one of the most beautiful scenes in all of cinema. The imagery, the music, all of it. The fact that it is the introduction of a monster makes it all the more beautiful.

I remember watching this film late at night, it popped up on tv and I just sat and watched it all the way through, it’s quite a stunning film with a gorgeous soundtrack

Molasar is Moloch. a Levantine god from ancient time. In the book he is a wizard called Rasalom from the first era of humans.

Does anyone know if Industrial Light & Magic did the effects for this sequence? I'd seen mention years ago that they did some work for this film uncredited but never knew if it was true or not. If it is true, this scene to me looks like the only one worthy of the ILM name.
