Welcome to Crash Course Religions! Over the next 24 episodes, John Green will explore the history and culture of religions and how they offer frameworks for making sense of our lives — while being incredibly slippery things to pin down. We’ll discover how we define, debate, and contest what religion means, whether we’re personally religious or not. Episode 1 premieres on September 10, 2024.

This content is based on an introductory university-level curriculum and the input of an advisory board of religious scholars. By the end of this course, you should be able to:

*Use tools and concepts in the study of religion to understand religious practices and worldviews.

*Unpack the history and culture of several major and minoritized religious traditions.

*Analyze inter-religious and intra-religious connections, influences, and frictions.

*Develop an informed historical perspective on contemporary religious issues and debates.

Most important religious saying: "Don't forget to be awesome."

This should be interesting. I am an atheist, but always up for a religious course. Religion is so much a part of our culture you can't separate yourself from it.

“It’s good to have such founding stories lest one take oneself too seriously.” As a fellow Episcopalian, I can relate to this!

I remember watching Religion For Breakfast's plea for a Crash Course Religious Studies a long ago, so I was chuffed to see Andrew Henry listed in the credits. I'm excited to see this series!

John is my favorite educator; I'm absolutely certain that his voice teaching American history was an essential part of why Crash Course succeeded.

As a professor of Religion, I've used your videos for more than a decade. ABOUT TIME for this series!

Excited about this series; good education about religion is so important.
The study of religion confronts you with humanities' worst (fanaticism, prejudice, violence, intolerance) and best (selflesness, compassion, creativity, wisdom) - it is just so utterly human.

I'm not personally religious myself but I'm excited and very pleased to see such an important topic done by John and Complexly. I know it's going to be handled in a sensitive, deeply thoughtful and, most importantly, often humorous manner.

Being of a non-Abrahamic spiritual practice, I actually am excited about the idea of a person who is not a religious scholar or theologian etcetera hosting a crash course series about religion. The all the years of watching vlogbrothers videos and participating in nerdfighter content I've never once found John to be dogmatic or proselytizing and honestly until a few years ago didn't actually know what Christian religion he was. I honestly think that John is the perfect person to host this series

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (people call us Mormons) i am always terrified when i know my religion might be a topic of media conversations. Its always wrong and disappointing. Its so obvious when reporters or media makers didnt even remotely talk to anyone actually from my church... about my church.

This is the least scared I've been. Thanks for being so thoughtful and trustworthy for so many years, John.

I really appreciate seeing the comments on crash course videos. Usually they are full of civil, academic discussions. My best friend who passed away a few months ago was very firmly a Christian, but he studied as many religions as he could so that he had a better understanding of the world around him and to further sure himself in his beliefs. Looking forward to going through this series

As someone on the road to becoming Catholic while having shown interests in other religions in the past, this series came at the perfect time. Also, glad to see ya back John!
