As the conflict between Russia and Ukraine shows no signs of de-escalation, everyone is talking about 'tactical nuclear weapons' and if Russia could use them.

So, what are tactical nuclear weapons?

Tactical nuclear weapons are created to deter advancing enemies at the battle field while strategic nuclear weapons are used for strategic targets

My father was an observer in the US army for an atomic test in 1956 in the Pacific where they used tactical nukes or " battlefield" nukes for the first time.
It's crazy to even think of using them as if they were grenades . The results will be incredibly deadly and inhumane

1 kiloton-nuke Wow. I wonder if it still has fallout. That sounds like a breakthrough,
meaning incredible.
(Respectfully).

I heard that Israel used a tactical nuke against the Syrian army, during the ISIL war. Civilians say a lot of Syrian soldiers died that day, and a nearby city lost electricity.

What about Depth charges, gravity bombs, short ranged missiles, torpedoes and landmines? You hardly didn't describe anything about tactical nukes?

Calling it now. If ukraine gains enough territory from russian held areas in ukraine in their counter offensive, tactical nukes will start flying. This will be highly likely if Ukraine actually pushes into Crimea itself, which Russia considers solid Russian territory right now. Ukraine might be playing with fire here.

People say why not use them against Taliban and ISIS?

Because there's innocent civilians between them?

Yeah for all but for corporate military, it ended business opportunities faster

Wars sometimes extended intentionally for business.

I find it interesting that the West feels that Russia would perform the same mistake the U.S. did in Japan of using nuclear weapons. Be it tactical or strategic, WMD are still a threat in both long and short terms. So far they used conventional weapons in the war against Ukraine. If i remeber correctly, in the Serbian war the West used depleted uranium and the effects are still on going. Lets just pray that the war ends and peace returns.

Has she got that right? The strategic nuke dropped on Hiroshima was 15KT, but tactical nukes range from 1KT to 100KT? How can something 6 times the size of the Hiroshima bomb be called a tactical nuke?

BS, 100 kilotons is not a tacticl nuke.

Not from the above video nor from anywhere else can I ever find out satisfactory intel on so call tactical nukes. We all need a comprehensive primer on this vital subject in only to help allay, possibly, our understandably shapeless fears. For example, how confident can Putin or his generals be that unpredictable winds might just blow radiation from these weapons backward toward nearby Moscow and Saint Petersburg and thus engender a worse nightmare for Russia than any of us can possibly imagine. We just are not being told the skinny.

this is a bit inaccurate, French tactical nukes ASMPA have a yield of 300 Kt, so the limit of 100kt is wrong
