AWD BMW M240i v RWD BMW M2: DRAG RACE

It’s time for the all-new BMW M2 to go head-to-head against the M240i!

Now before getting into the stats you’d be forgiven for assuming the M2 would walk this. After all, the M240i is effectively a BMW M2 ‘lite’, right? Well, this one may be closer than you think…

So let’s see how they compare. First up we have the M240i. It’s powered by a 3-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine that can produce 374hp and 500Nm of torque. This power is delivered to all four wheels, and it weighs in at 1,690kg. If you’re looking to pick one up, it’ll cost around £49,000.

Then we have the BMW M2. It comes with the same 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six as found in the latest M3, but the output has been dialled down slightly, so it’ll produce 460hp and 550Nm of torque. This power is delivered to the rear wheels only, and it tips the scales at 1,725kg. If you’re looking to buy one new, it’ll set you back around £65,000.

So the new M2 may have more power, but not only is it more expensive, it’s heavier and doesn’t come equipped with four wheel drive! Could that prove to be its downfall? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

Realistically the M240 is all anyone ever needs, with a tune it'd be just as quick as the M2 and it has the bonus of looking a whole lot better too.

That m240i with the JB4 box is an insane combo. The way it launched at the end with the tuning box on is crazy

One thing not mentioned this M240 has besides a catback exhaust and eventuri intake is it also has a catless down pipe which definitely helps with the performance even with the piggyback turned off. Would be nice if Matt was able to get a bone stock M240 to race against this bone stock M2

The 240i with a inexpensive minor tune is a banger and the interior looks better, also you can save so much money by not going for the M2, great value for money.

been waiting for this video since they M2 came out. I'm glad i pulled the trigger on the M240.

i think this video proves that if you are just a normal driving person that likes to go fast... get the M240. less harsh of the ride, $10-15k savings, and full potential to tune this faster than an M2.

I have a ACS tuned M240i and it’s bloody rapid off the line!
I must get around to trying launch control though 🙈

The M240/340 and even 550 are good. You could just get a CPO with low miles, and really be very content without a full M. Considering how much better it is to daily, which is what most people do.
