AWD vs RWD

Notice the composure of the RWD cars around the corner, where the AWD Audi and Evo X understeer wide despite identical entry speeds and identical lines.

This test is very scientific and 100% conclusive.

For those complaining I am not ragging on AWD nor saying it is useless. All I am saying is that in my opinion when a driver is looking for pure driving enjoyment through twisty roads, RWD is superior.

ah yes, driving a awd like a rwd and then getting upset because it dosent yield the same outcome.

149 Likes, 283 Dislikes. Makes sense, considering the useless comparison between family vehicles using AWD and legendary, LIGHT (!!!) middle engine RWD sports cars.
And i bet the Audi can be so much faster, just give it still some braking power in the corner entrance and give it (full?) throttle halfway into the corner. If you can control it, you could even do a scandinavian flick and powerslide it like crazy the whole corner thru, so the family car wins against legendary sports cars.

AWD requires more weight transfer, use your left foot to brake and get the weight onto the front tires. Simple.

RWD is more fun and turns quicker. Why is Porsche 911 RWD faster then Porsche 911 AWD, because it turns faster. And Porsche 911 is probably the best example due to heavy engine back and 4 wheel drive give heavier front = one of the best balanced AWD cars. Imagine heavy engine and heavy AWD front. This is in case of active sporty driving.

what's with the EGREGIOUS horrible double laning around BLIND dumb AF. esp for the lead cars to be doing this. You'd expect better from someone driving a NSX and E46 M3.

This is such a dumb video your comparing a Audi which is prone to oversteer to a 350z and corvette. The Audi naturally is more front heavy and even if it were RWD they love to oversteer, a G35/G37 sedan or coupe with AWD handles WAY better than the RWD ones

Audi hangs their engines in front of the front axle, so all that weight up there is hard to compensate. A stiffer rear sway bar might help though.

I see some trivial Initial D ahh argument about how rwd/awd is superior in comments

Audi struggling for grip, designers shouldn’t have placed the engine so far forward.

What the hell is this video trying to show? You need rwd to go 20 mph around a turn? Pretty sure a FWD car could do the same road and be fine lol

This is not an issue with torque vectoring newer awd systems

It’s just physics..a real sportscar can only be a RWD. No other words needed. There is no such thing as a pure handling AWD.

i like rwd best but even fwd can corner like that. none is superior, i like rwd best cause it leaves my front tires free for steering but all 3 have strengths and weaknesses, only drive that sucks is no wheel drive.

"Why some peole prefer RWD to AWD." Fixed it.

obvious has AWD more understeering, but for this problem there is a center differential
