I traveled with Ed Alvarez (the Director for Guam's Decolonization Commission) and former Guam Senator Marilyn Manibusan for a 10 day research and solidarity trip to Okinawa. Our many hosts treated us to a party on our last day. Jun Sakima of the Sakima Art Museum was kind enough to play some sanshin music for us.

It's a Sanshin. Very similar to the Shamisen but played with a pick rather than a plectrum.

what is the instrument he's playing? is it a shamisen? or is it another type? Is it to hard to learn to play? my dream would be playing okinawa songs to my little children in the future :)
