But what surprises me is hearing a song after hearing it for hundreds of times an understanding lines of the song for the first time.

Wow. I've seen other artists try to do this style where they slow down a peppy pop song and make it emo. Usually it's pretty formulaic-- I know one band that made a whole album around the idea-- but this is really masterfully done. Bravo, puddles!
