Thanks for the video but that background music is horrible.

The $125 is not someone ripping you off. That is a temporary block on your account or car. This system is followed in all of Europe; including in the Netherlands where I live.

Thanks for the tips - I am going to Iceland in a few days and will watch my speed/gas pump/parking after hearing this.

That's how it always works, everywhere. What's the problem? At every automatic filling station. Whether Iceland, Scotland or Portugal. It can even happen when you book a hotel.
It's also displayed on my bank account. It then says "Reserved". It can take a few days for the correct amount to be debited.

Thank you for sharing your mistakes. I am sure you realize that we all make mistakes when we are traveling especially if you are visiting somewhere for the 1st time. Planning a trip to Iceland but not exactly sure when. Thinking of renting a motorhome when visiting Iceland for my 21 yr old daughter and I her dad. So all your tips are very helpful.

You are misunderstanding the gas pumping. You need to put the card to get a receipt but that has nothing to do with stopping the card from being used. As soon as you put the pump back you finish the transaction but the bank uses a temporary block of funds to make sure you have the amount needed before you start pumping the gas.

I suppose by now you have figured out that the $125 charge that appeared right after your fuel charge was actually a temporary hold, which seems to be normal when you select the "fill" option on a pump. That was probably refunded to your account shortly after.

The charge stops when you put the nossle back in. You can not take the nossle back out and continu pumping. So the charge you saw was a temporary lock.

Speeding tickets are expensive in the United States and then the icing on the cake, the insurance goes LOL.

Re speeding….just don’t. It s a beautiful country, enjoy the view. Use cruise control to maintain speed and waze to help let you know of speed changes and cameras. Also pay attention when approaching towns, speed limits drop rapidly.

I like the strict speeding rules unlike in USA. In USA its almost lawless now. Americans have to understand that once you leave your country, American rules or what is normal in America no longer apply!

People don't inform themselves enough when travelling and later end up having bad experiences. Knowledge of other countries practices and rules save you a lot of headaches and money.

Thanks for create and share.

I'm agree with all you say about things to do and not to save money, but I really like the hard punishment Iceland make on speed limit because I think we are not fully aware of how it looks like an accident on 90 to 100 km/hr, and for sure, you say "there's nobody there" and yes, I believe you 100% but you need only one mistake in your whole life to experience that.

Anyway, thanks for everything!

The moral of (part of) this story is - don't drive too fast wherever you go! And if you think $25 is a lot for 3 hours parking, you want to come to the UK Lake District!

So this is how all the wrong information about the gas pumps is spread. As others wrote, it's just a deposit and the charge will be adjusted to what you actually put into your tank in a few days. You end your transaction by putting the nozzle back into the pump, person after you cant use your credit.

Met some people that, seeing videos like this, believed they wont get any money back. So they, being on motorbikes, started filling up coke bottles and whatnot to not "waste" any money. Which is both really dangerous and unnecessary.
