The Other Universes | Three Body Problem Series

The Remembrance of Earth’s Past Trilogy is one of the best sets of speculative science fiction books to appear in recent years. The Trilogy explores themes surrounding both the human will to survive, and the potential of mankind to inflict harm upon itself rather than band together in the face of a greater threat. Another major theme is our place in the universe and assumptions about the cosmos and our lack of actual concrete knowledge about it. Because of its exploration of these themes, the Remembrance of Earth's Past is one of the most existentially terrifying series of the modern era. I’ve covered several aspects of the series in videos that can be found linked in a playlist below. In this video specifically, we will discuss the ending of the final book in the trilogy, Death’s End. This video will have spoilers for all three books in the series.

Thank you for your continued coverage of this series. It’s easily one of the best things I’ve ever read. Every time you cover it, I’m reminded of why that is.

Just one of the many things that I really like this series is how it realistically shows how polluted, abused, and ruined the universe is as a result of the rampant amount of life and civilizations in it.
This series breaks your heart as much as it blows your mind.

The part in the shuttle with Yifan and Cheng Xin was so crushing to me. Right before she was going to see Yun Tianming again... Man...

I finished reading The Redemption of Time last month, and I really enjoyed it. I thought it was amazing how a fan of the Three Body Problem series could have written that book in such a short time after the release of Death's End. My mind was blown by how many things the author could explain connecting dots from the original story. It's for sure the best fan made book I've ever read. I am excited for your future videos on it.

19:54 : This line gave me chills. Please return the mass you stole from the universe and send only the memories to the new universe...

I can't thank you enough Quinn. I've been following you for over a year and this is my all-time favorite sci-fi series you have covered. I don't have access to the show, yet, but I'm excited and patient. Again, thank you.

Sophon's description of overall structure of the pocket universes started to scratch an itch in my brain. She said that there were multiple great universes and pocket universes all existing on a membrane. Then later they find out that the mass of the universe is "set" incredibly precisely/delicately to just barely allow a big crucn, and deviation from that total mass will result in a big chill/rip, preventing it from restarting.

Those two pieces of info, along with the theme of the "nature" of the universe not being so natural, having been influenced by countless civilizations, across multiple dimensions of space, made me ask: "Why would the dark forest stop at just the edge of the universe?"

If we make the, admittedly, big assumption that the universes could detect other universes, but similar dark forest rules applied, then perhaps the fundamental rules, including the mass limit, could be part of a "safety signal" to prevent dark forest strikes from other universes.

Thought it was a fun idea.

Quinn thankyou for reigniting my passion for reading after nearly 12 years since I just stopped.
I just the finished the last book of the Foundation series and I completed the Three Body Problem series back in December and January.
So I can finally go back watch your videos and not worry about spoilers.
Thanks again

The pure joy of seeing a Quinn Three Body Problem vid on your feed followed by the existential dread of what the actual video contains is always a rollercoaster 😅

Some of the scariest Sci-fi stories are the ones with a little "truth" sprinkled within. The expansion of the universe is one of those terrifying ideas that sits in the back of my mind eating away at my sanity...😅😱

Excellent! I have always loved the music you choose for the background of your narration as well as the intro/outro. It is just so fitting to the subject matter!
Thanks for keeping this channel going strong!

Your breakdown of the timeline of this series had me constantly looking forward to the next video. The story constantly went into completely unexpected directions and I love the message at the end. Now we can only hope that Tencent puts the other two books to screen as well. I can't wait to see how they would depict the wild stuff that's coming next

Quinn, i really appreciate your Q & A. You do not take the easy ones, but rather the questions that you can answer with your intention for the content you create. Thank you for the insights and hard work

Hey Quinn, I picked this series up because of you and it’s now my favorite sci-fi series. Thank you for shedding light on it. I don’t think I would have found it if not for your videos. Funny enough, your ominous opening theme is something I now associate with this series lol thank you for the awesome recommendations. If I ever need a new book to read, I know exactly where to look now. Thanks, bud. You’re doing great things.
