The 90s for example are known as "Good Wood Years" for gibsons... they did build great playing guitars in the 90s and theyre not as expensive as the 70s ones. Coz the 90s ones are more valued as "Player guitars" and not so much as "Collector guitars" . I at least can say my 1995 SG plays and feels great and doesnt go out of tune all the time. You said "Some years they did stupid things" ... yeah... I personally would stay away from the "Robotuner" ones for example (dunno which years they were made... 2016 or something) . Best is of cause if you can try the guitar in person before buying just in general. the year 2020 didnt make that easy though.
Would have been nice, if you would have mentioned how different the feel is as a player between the Epiphone and an SG. If the Gibson is lot "easier" to play or feels more comfortable to play.

Im having an eye on the Epiphone SG modern at the moment. I kinda want a 24 fret sg with coilsplit option :D Have you tried one of those yet?
At the moment i sadly cant go to a music store and try one myself. + I hope they maybe release it in different colors in the future :D
