How to Take an Engine out of a Volkswagen

After our recent purchase of a MK7 Golf R with a blown up engine, it is now time to drop the engine to get ready for tear down! We decided it'd be fun to make a how to (DIY) video on dropping this engine! Most Volkswagen engines drop out the same way, so this video can be used for context for most VW / Audi Engines!

It’s really funny seeing non rust belt mechanics reacting to what rust belt mechanics think are clean underside pieces

The DAP Shop is awesome. I bought a oil extractor, filter, and oil. I'm never crawling underneath a car again to change oil.

This is why I love German Engineering! The best engineering is nothing like having to disconnect 130 hoses and unscrew 512 bolts and nuts. This engine out was necessary because the engine isn't good, but most times, it is a rear main seal or some stupid plastic part that they put in the most impossible way to get it out.

Love you VW/Audi please never change! ❤

When I swapped the motor in my EmKay6 GTi, I pulled the AC compressor off the motor and left it with the body. I was able to keep the charge on the AC with the motor out.

Also, for those of us not fortunate enough to have a lift, I pulled the front end off and took the motor out the front with subframe still in the car.

I took a mk7 golf R engine out by removing the front pulley and engine mount complete on that end and everything else but I un did the bell housing bolts moved the engine over and up and out.
Left transmission complete in the car 😊 worked for me and back in again.

My mk6 Jetta decided to jump time the other day (it’s a 2.0 non turbo so it likely just needs valves) I probably won’t have to drop the engine but its nice being more familiar with the engine bay and what all the misc hoses and wires do/are for. Thank you sir!

7:37 I just remove the three bolts holding the cables to box and shift the whole lot out the way when I do clutches on these.
