I rebuilt my 350 in my 85 Silverado I spent more on it than a new crate but it sure runs better. NAPA done all of the machine work I replaced the heads with brand new aftermarket performance heads. First engine I had ever built by myself that was about 10 years ago she still running strong.

I rebuilt my jeep 4.0 myself for less than $800. I had the head redone and the cylinders bored at a local machine shop. I mic'd everything and checked clearances using my Haynes Manual and from watching YouTube videos. It can be done, and I honestly prefer it this way because I know it was done right.

I got my '87 Fairmont engine rebuilt. Total waste of money. Cost me nearly $3k. New engine is less than $1k. I was young and stupid.

Hey Scotty, good points on the rebuilds. At my shop we do a lot of custom work but our engines get sent to Jasper for custom rebuilds. They do great work especially on the older hard to find engines. Love your videos, keep it up brother

Thanks Scotty for always putting in a plug for stick shifts! An old mechanic told me years ago, a clutch assembly is always cheaper than an automatic! You are right, they are more fun too! Thanks!

684, 132 miles on 94 f150 4.9l I put v8 pistons and upgrade camshaft new main, rod, cam bearings, and freeze plugs, water pump, oil pump new timing! Machine shop and rebuilt the head new valves port and polish installed new transmission! Ac ice cold new paint job shocks and frontend bushings and tie rods ball joints everything under the front end! Rebuilt front and rear center chunk(4x4) new transfer case! It's 1994 f150 4.9l automatic transmission short bed 4x4! I spent just under five grand it looks and drives new! I had it since I was 18 I'm now 33! I've had the body off and painted the frame all bushings for the body new mounting bolts and winch bumper put on! Solid truck! Just recently put new carpet and recovered the seats! The truck is new it was worth it if YOU are building it for yourself! It's not an investment to do this and resell you will never get your money back! As for this truck I put a slide in camper and road trip! It's the best ford I've owned ever well worth the rebuild!

I rebuilt my own engine when I was a kid and didn't really know what I was doing. It held together long enough to sell it, so I don't know how long it lasted. My next rebuild was a dismal failure. But after trying it again and again I am confident in my ability to do a quality rebuild. A quality rebuild is NOT inexpensive! But if you plan to keep it a while, it's a good investment.

I had a 302 Ford rebuilt, all by the same shop, and it didn't turn out so great. They bent one of the oil rings on the #2 cylinder, and it really screwed up that cylinder. I went to a local shop down in Mesa, az and they had no problem sleeving that cylinder. I did all the other assembly, port work, rod balancing, etc. at home. Runs great now

I love rebuilding engines, with forged internals, and tubular manifolds. My engine stand gets lonely without one!

Agree on Element/CRV transmissions. Changing trans fluid often saved mine. Takes 3 quarts of Honda specific fluid every 15k miles will prevent a lot of problems. Never tow anything with one of these cars.

I have to agree with scotty on this one. I plan on getting a second engine just to learn about rebuilding, not expecting it to work. But there are well priced engines, been a while since I checked but 5k for the whole thing. Worth every penny. Make sure to get one without the defected heads.
