The only reason im looking (not staring cuz thats creepy) at guys/girls is because im new and im trynna figure out how each machine works exactly (yes its written but sometimes it can still be overwhelming)

I‘m from Germany and on the first day when I went to the gym, I had to tell a personal trainer my fitness goals. If I wanna lose weight or gain muscle for example and then he would make a plan for me. He would show me every excersice on every machine so I wouldn’t hurt myself. I think that was really cool, because I felt a lot more confident and I knew what I was doing :)

I know what you’re talking about people being on their phones but keep in mind a lot of people’s workout plans & weight tracking is on their phone 🙈 I always get so much anxiety getting on my phone to track stuff because of this exact reason.

I add mine : DO NOT assume everyone knows everything and allows beginner to do some mistakes … lmao

They should give booklets in the gym with all the exercices and on which machine you. An do them. I def think that some people just dont know. But of course there are the others too lol

I remember I was about to use this one equipment and I was asking the girls around, "Is this yours?" And they would just say no. They had their gym bag on top. Finally I went to the gym employee and told him someone just left their gym bag there and I was afraid to move it and cause a confrontation. He came with me and as he was about to move it, one of the girls I had previously asked, said, "Don't move it, she is doing the...". I forgot what word she used. In short, she had saved spots, because she was going to use this equipment, that equipment, etc. The hell. That's not your private gym. Move over witches!!!

I’ve had the problem where I stare bc I never wear my glasses or contacts in the gym and never realize that I’m staring at someone bc I can’t see them 😅

I stare cause I’m new and I’m trying to figure out how people use the machines. 🤦🏾‍♀️

People, I wrote that after my second trip to the gym. I was watching this video (For beginners) to learn how to conduct myself because I had no clue. I would try to discreetly watch what a person was doing.
I didn’t even know the name of the machines to type into YouTube to see how to use the them.
Asking for help isn’t easy for everyone. You already feel like you stick out like a sore thumb as a beginner and that the whole gym will see you’re every mistake. Obviously now I know and I’m a lot more confident.

The amount of times I’ve had to rerack heavy plates (far more than I normally lift as a beginner) off of equipment so I can use it for my much lighter weights. So inconsiderate and inconvenient. If you can lift it you can rerack it.

Only been going to the gym for about month now (and I'm LOVING it!), but I dread the day someone tries to make convo with me in the gym while I'm in my zone/out of breath lol. But thanks so much for this vid!!! I was constantly thinking about if what I'm doing is rude/not following that gym etiquette haha.

Don't drop your weights on the floor after a set like you just set a new world record in power lifting. Control yourself and control the weights on the way down.

Edit: I'll rephrase myself. I did say "after a set". I do understand if you just maxed out and hit your limit and couldn't hold it. We've all been there. What I meant was in reference to those who do it after every single set. We get it....you're a big guy lifting big weights. It's a gym. We're all picking up large heavy objects and putting them back down again.

2 things. 1. I feel awkward when I'm stared at not because I feel like theyre checking me out but because yikes I look sweaty and gross and they're probably judging me. 2. Even getting on my phone between sets makes me nervous because I'm worried people will think I'm just sitting there hogging the machine :')

Don’t give people gym advice if they don’t ask for it!

I had a guy walk up to me in the middle of my second set of shoulder press to spot me, placing his hands on my elbows through my entire last three reps. Then proceeded to tell me a girl shouldn’t be pressing 35s so he thought I should have some help. I have never been that angry 😡

Yes, yes, yes to ALL of this! So good Britt! Thanks for sharing this and I hope SO many people see this, especially those who are unaware of proper gym etiquette!

I’m about to start at a gym for the first time and I’ve been watching some of these do and don’t videos and I feel like there are so many unspoken rules I’m nervous to start 😂.

Excellent advice. This should be required viewing for *everyone* who gets a gym membership. People have entirely NO self-awareness these days!
