First thing our instructor taught us - "it's a knife fight - you ARE going to get CUT".

My favorite knife fight move is called running away. Super effective.

My Teacher always said, if you get into a knife fight you will get cut. Avoid, and prepare because it’s probably a situation that is life and death.

I remember hearing in a knife fight there are no winners just survivors. This short is really selling that.

Very true, my family is from Baguio. This was taught to me by my father also . Don’t block the knife. Cut the hands, joints, fingers, or anything keeping him holding that knife. and if your gonna get cut, better get your veins cut then your arteries so you won’t bleed out as fast them. If you can prepare. tie some ropes around you arms as tourniquets.

The FACT that Filipinos invented the Balisong, aka the Butterfly Knife is amazingly crazy.
Also, if i see a Filipino able to flip 2 Balisongs with 1 in each hand, I'm walking away & saying "You Win"

Best training g I ever had was Kali. I’m a small dude like philipinos. I have no time for a larger opponent. I need to dispatch the aggressor quick, fast and decisive. That’s what I was taught in Kali.

This is an incredible instructor. Not only does he take time with his individual students but he explains to them. I've seen some instructors in a study with some instructors that are so advanced. They're so incredible but they can only teach other teachers they've so Advanced that they can't speak to normal beginners. Death explain it to somebody who is already a super Advanced teacher themselves who has then explain it to lesser to lesser to lesser to break it down into actual application. This is a wonderful example of this super Advanced teacher who could teach the best teachers but still is able to communicate and articulate and demonstrate in such a way that a novice could learn from him.

My Filipino mother would say: "Filipinos are Born With a Knife In Their Hand!"

Years ago when I was doing taekwondo I had an Asian sparring partner who really drove the point home. Really nice guy, but he had an animal in him. Had been involved in gangster stuff in the past. Every time we practiced knife defense I went home covered in bruises.

He helped me understand that I'll never have the awareness, speed and skill to fight someone like that. If knives come out and escape is not an option, I'll fight, but death is pretty much inevitable
