The driver of the Tesla should be paying attention. Ignorance and laziness is no excuse.

Ive known about this Tesla issue for a while now so whenever I ride near a Tesla, i pretend to hear the Jaws theme music to provoke some anxiety and remind me to get hell away from them.

I really love riding and hate that risk has increased from tech. It was bad enough with cell phones but keeps getting worse as technology becomes more accessible to dummies.

AS A DAILY RIDER, I WAS UNAWARE OF THESE MECHANICAL MONSTROSITIES

Even the little blind spot indicator in side mirrors turns ppl into never checkers.
I have a Miata that often isn't detected by the radar from SUV/trucks and it's unreal how many people put their own lives in the hands of that lil orange light

My ex wife works in the autonomous vehicle industry, and true, level 4 autonomy, or “autopilot” still isn’t legal in the US, and incidents like these are the reason why. Consumers need to understand that they can’t kick back and expect their cars drive themselves.

As an licensed pilot (aircraft) even when I'm flying an autopilot equipped aircraft where there's much less chance of hitting something, you'd better believe I'm still paying close attention to the situation outside as well as my instrumentation to make sure that the auto flight system is behaving as expected and doing what I told it to do. Same should apply for cars. If you're the operator using an automatic driving feature from vanilla cruise control to Tesla "Autopilot", you are fully responsible for what your vehicle does as you should be closely monitoring it and keeping engaged.

I hosted Jeff's Memorial in Renton (near Seattle). Raised a bunch of awareness for this with hundreds of riders who attended.

To be honest, people who get into a car to NOT DRIVE IT really piss me off. Are we that busy now that the act of driving is is a waste of time ?

What angers me so much is that Tesla drivers use auto pilot as an excuse to use their phones and/or sleep. I've seen them stare down at their phones, unable to see what's in front of them. I know at least 3 people right now who have been locked out of the auto pilot program because they fell asleep, let go of the handle, or weren't paying attention far too often. Their attitudes suck too. I've honked a few times to get them off their phones and they'll freak out at me like I just ran them off the road or something. People, pay attention while on the road. You're operating heavy machinery that will kill if operated irresponsibly, please.

with Teslas EVERYWHERE here in Austin, I don't ride anywhere near them. Not only does the FSD not work, Tesla drivers in general just tend to be ass at operating anything on wheels.

edit- if you want a fully automated driving experience with no input should just ride busses and trains.

Musk always says next year FSD, it never comes and no one else is doing it for a reason.

Airline pilots use auto pilot. However, the differences is that F.A.A. requires one of the pilots to be monitoring the entire time.

"Who's At Fault:.The Inattentive Driver Using The Autopilot Feature Or Tesla Branding This System As Autopilot?"

Honestly, I'd say that it's a combination of both

Honestly I know a guy whom fell asleep inside his Tesla on auto pilot. Instead of getting home to long beach, california, he ended up auto piloting up the coast to Ventura County.

I can never see the HAGA replica helmet without laughing!
Back in my racing days, my teammate always wore one and loved that lid so much that when we were in a practice session one day, and while I was trailing him into a corner, he tucked the front and went down.
The funny thing was, for the whole crash he had his arms wrapped around his head to try to keep the helmet from getting dinged !!!😂

Calling Tesla drivers "dim-witted" is so on point. I have had so many instances when they just cut in front of me without signaling, and we almost make contact. Not gonna lie, since there are so many Teslas on the road, I am more skeptical about getting a bike.

Edit: I live in California, so I see more Teslas than Camrys. Scary how so many people just throw money around :((

They aren't very popular where I ride. Still, if you practice the 'I am invisible, I am a motoryclist' mantra regularly, then it is possible to see the stainless steel and not become a stain upon it.
