Hey Guys, I’m Alex Etches and I’m a golf professional and product reviewer. If you don’t know me, I started playing golf from 10 years old, turned professional at 22 in the UK, and have been creating entertaining and informative golf content on different platforms for the last 10 years. My home is now AUSTRALIA and I hope to take you around some of the best golf courses from down under.

On this channel, you can expect many fun reviews and videos. From testing out some crazy golf clubs to the latest product releases which include TaylorMade, Callaway, Cobra, Mizuno, Titleist, and many more...

I also do lots of traveling and will bring you along the journey with me. With Golf Vlogs from the UK, the US, and many other locations it never gets boring on tour with #TEAMAL!

Anyway, enough about me - If you’re new to the channel, or have been with #TEAMAL for a while, write a message down in the comment section and say Hi!

This morning I had my coffee and thought that I hadn’t done a Retro Review in a while.

So, I filmed this video this morning; edited it, shot the B-Roll, created the thumbnail etc. and here we are...

Actually loved make this one! 😂

You're right, I did get that toy tool set in 1995 as a Christmas gift from my parents. It was very thoughtful of them, but I was 31.

Two of the best set of blades were made by Daiwa. Chariman blades and DG201's. The 201's were mint irons back in the day. I'm pretty sure Ian Baker Finch won his Open with Daiwa's in the bag! They are now sold as JDM gear (expensive) and called Onoff as far as I know.

I remember this iron as it came out when I was caddying at the club in 1990. A number of the men bought these as graphite shafted irons were the rage. There is a reason they did not stick around, and most of the men went back to their Pings, Hogans, and Titlest the following year. The DCIs came out the same year.

@1:05 "another old Top Flite" out of the pond 🤣. Now that IS retro Al. I just tossed a bunch of 'brand new' Top Flites that I found hiding in a box in the back of the garage LOL

Love the Video. I also love the fact you showed the Ugly Stik GX2 combos instead of a Daiwa combo.

That brought back memories! I worked in a pro shop at that time and used to sell all of the Daiwa kit, from memory it was pretty expensive but very popular.

According to the Club Pro at my course, who claims to be 127 years old and knows everything about golf, Daiwa entered the golf market in around 1972. Their first irons to be worth looking at were in the early 90s and were even used by Ian Baker-Finch and Dan Forsman on tour for a bit. He figures your PG-201 irons to be from around 1995 or so.

I loved it mate really cool to see a retro review. I have some 1987 PGF slammer woods and irons. Grips are dead, shafts are steel, there is a little bit of rust, heads are ok on woods are a bit bruised, a bit of the laminate has been smashed of by sky marks. (Not me previous owners) irons look like a Big Bertha iron on steroids.😭
I wish I could lend them to you for a video.

I had the DG-201 blade back in 1994 with Rifle 6.7 tipped...solid, solid clubs. I believe the iron you were hitting was late 1980's.

Daiwa Seiko golf division changed names to ONOFF Golf in 2009 and I believe still make clubs today.
