From my perspective as a US citizen, Japan's biggest flaw is it's unreasonable work culture. I think if this were improved, it would help a lot with work-life balance, interpersonal relationships, happiness(obviously), and would give them more time and freedom for individuality and self-expression through hobbies. The strict rules and respect for authority inherent in Japanese culture I think is something that is underappreciated and is actually a strong point of their culture. Crime is astronomically low, experts are actually listened to in their respective fields, and people just generally seem to have more respect for each other, even if it seems like they are just putting up a front. Few people in western society, especially the US, have any respect for each other anymore...

I hate the fact that Japanese people complain about unpleasant things, but in the end they care about people's eyes and don't try to change them.
The example is that the voter turnout of young people is low.
