The launch of Nasa’s much-anticipated moon mission Artemis 1 was called off 40 minutes before lift-off on August 29, 2022, after a technical snag described as a temperature issue with one of the spacecraft’s four engines. Space fans gathered near the Kennedy Space Center in the US state of Florida to watch the blast-off were left disappointed. The uncrewed mission is now expected to be rescheduled to September 2 at the earliest, in what the US space agency hopes will pave the way for crewed missions to the moon and ultimately Mars.

I'm glad they decided to do the smart thing and postponed the mission. Anyone who is familiar with the Challenger disaster knows any kind of error with the launch system, no matter how minor, should not be ignored.

The specific problem was with Engine No. 3 of the core stage, one of the four big "bells" nearest the ground. These were actually previously Space Shuttle RS-25 engines re-adapted for the Artemis rocket. The system is designed to "bleed off" a portion of its supercooled propellant to keep the engine within a safe temperature range for startup, but it was not working correctly for Engine No. 3. Since rocket engines have to endure extreme temperatures during ignition it is wiser to postpone the launch.

Imagine going there on a vacation to see the rocket launch and then this happened. Now you're on your way home because your vacation ended 😆

Hopefully the September 2 launch will be better.
It’s disappointing for me because I wanted to see it live, as I am a bit of an enthusiast, unfortunately I won’t be able to because I as well as thousands of others who wanted to see it will be in class at 12:00 on Friday.

The Artemis is like starting human moon landing from scratch again, sort of re-inventing the wheel. Hasn't experience from past Apollo moon landings helped anyway to skip the unmanned trips to the moon?

It wasn’t ready. They had four wet dress rehearsals and all of them failed. So this was going to be the fifth dress rehearsal, under the watchful eyes of the world. Under the current contract which is cost plus formula the contractors know the longer they drag on the more money they can get out of the cash cow.

As an Afghan astronaut, I'm predicting this NASA launch will fail like India's launch, Inshallah.
