As much shit the Lion and the Dark Angels get, he was willing to go furthest away from his brothers and the emperor with no hope of getting backup. Basically a suicide mission if the traitors sent more after him than he could handle. He literally gambled his entire legion for retribution

*Guilliman and The Lion share a knowing look, a glimmer of true humanity, of brotherhood filling the eyes of El'Johnson. They both turn to Sanguinius, and grasp a shoulder in each of their hands.*

"When it is finished."
"When it is finished."

*They both replied in unison, a somber but familial love in each of their presence. The closest thing to a hug possible in their armour, and in the circumstance of the moment.*

"To war then. Always on to War."

*The Angel spake as he took up his spear. Grinning to the both of them, returning their kindness with the honesty of a mere man, breathing his last true moments of peace.*

The Horus Heresy was basically a series of ironic twists. The Lion's plan to destroy the traitor homeworlds because he thought they would come to defend them was for nothing as they didn't give a shit about them. Roboute created the Imperium Secondua because due to the ruinstorm he thought that the Imperium had fallen and was trying to save what remains of it. Magnus tried to warn the Emperor about Horus's fall, only to be accused as traitor himself and later end up joining Horus in the heresy. And the list goes on.

“Terra, hold your positions. Remain in secure defensive alignment. Hold your positions. That’s all you need to do. Just hold. Repeat, we are nine hours out.”

The tragedy and irony that the only person who has met them both is Dante, the best son of Sanguinius and the one who wears his face...

You know, thinking about it, I can understand the Lion's rage at seeing Dante in Sanguinius's death mask. Because for him, it was the grim reminder that he wasn't meeting Sanguinius, that he had failed to draw them away, that he would never see Sanguinius again.

The lion having a Scottish accent completely through me, him being a knight and based on feudal English/french knightly orders in fantasy. But I actually really like it. Makes him distinctive.

Technically they will meet again In 10, 000 years but it will be Dante that meets with them instead of his father.🐱

I love Sanguinius having the most calming voice of the thee...despite being the most badass. Perfectly encapsulate the duality of Sanguinius.

The Lion: "How many of them will stay when their homeworlds are threatened? Not all of them."

Also the Lion when literally noone left the siege to defend their homeworlds, thereby making his entire effort useless: "Guess I'll kill Russ."

Ah yes, Ruinstorm, a permanent feature on the list of 40K books I can’t find anywhere.

"When shall we three meet again?" Is the opening line from Macbeth - not only is this a play about the rise and downfall of a king through his own machinations and hubris, but the line is spoken by one of the 3 witches - who bear a stark resemblance to the "Fates" of Greek Mythology. The role of the fates was to ensure that every being, mortal and divine, lived out their destiny as it was assigned to them by the laws of the universe. So it's particularly appropriate here as the 3 Primarchs come to terms with their own destinies.

I hate it when there are moments like these, because you just know, since this is the grimdark, Jonsson and Guilliman will find no respite, their duty still continues, it has to continue, and they know it, in the Imperium, only in death, does duty end. Here's to hoping the two will finally meet each other again, face to face

“How many of our treacherous brothers will stay with the blockade… not all of them” cracks me up way more than it should.

It somehow makes the fact that Roboute and the Lion being the only loyal primarchs alive and running in modern 40k all the more tragic.
