Quadrupedal Movement: Why You Should Crawl Like a Bear (Or Lizard)

This post explores the bear crawl exercise and lizard crawl - both examples of quadrupedal movement. These exercises provide a host of different benefits: from building strength endurance and a tough core, to developing coordination and balance.

As well as listing the benefits of the bear crawl exercise and others, this video will also explore some interesting variations: from lateral movement options, to a cool method for adding resistance.

Oh, and stay until the end for a cool bonus. Enjoy!

I'm sure most of your close neighbours have coffee machines and a seat next to their upstairs windows to spectate you doing exercises, "there he is again, somersaulting off the shed blindfolded with a kettlebell clamped between his teeth" *shakes head*

Just did a two-minute crawl back and forth along my landing. I think I discovered pockets of space in my lungs that I've never inhaled into before. This is utterly brutal.

My cat gets overstimulated when I do any crawling, yoga, etc. He takes it as a challenge to see how many times he can headbutt me in the mouth.

This is a TREMENDOUS exercise that should be far more normalized. Playing with the little siblings is so much more fun. I can chase them and take them down whilst crawling. Doing this with a sled is an AMAZING power builder with a variety of carry over! Love the video.

The most challenging thing I've done so far is bear crawling face-forwards downhill with the "floor is lava" mode on. Only allowed to touch rocks. It put so much stress on parts of my body I've never used in static gym work outs.

Me: skinny, pale, crawling around the yard, clutching my fitness watch
The neighbours: "It's Gollum again!"

"Multi-thread your cerebrum" is probably the coolest explanation I've ever heard.

I can't get over how well chosen the name "Bioneer" is for this channel.

One time, someone I know, we’ll call him Not Liam, Not Liam Took LSD and was hanging with cats and decided to crawl around all day and vowed to keep crawling more. But when not Liam sobered up he lost his mojo. Maybe it’s time to start crawling again

Have been doing this for mma training for about 2 years now, it increased my grappling endurance massively.

Years ago when I trained Muay Thai, I used to do push ups with my legs on the stairs, this evolved into me crawling up and down the stairs at the end of each set. My wife thought I was a looney, glad there’s some science backing me up

I now crawl 5 minutes a day every day, at first I thought it wouldn’t be hard to do 5 mins, I struggled to do it for over 1 minute, but I built up to it and it had definitely helped my endurance and strength as my jobs involves lots of body movement all day

I can’t stop picturing his wife talking to their realtor and being like “well Adam needs lots of land to run around” oh you have a dog? “No, I meant my husband, he..just nevermind” lol. No, but I really love that he addresses that. It’s really hard for me to have people see me workout so doing all of that stuff in public seems very intimidating and he just does not give a shit. It’s honestly really inspiring. And also like if their garden tiller breaks, I think he would have them covered lol.
