Making My Mom's Meatballs

I am so, so sorry to say that my mom suffered a stroke that led to a brain hemorrhage while on vacation in Greece and unfortunately passed away on August 24th. We spent 4 days in Crete with her and we were supposed to meet in Athens for the last few days of our vacation. I cannot express how grateful I am to all of you who embraced her and loved her just as much as I did. I built a shrine to her on my social media and will continue to do so. It’s so funny: She hated when I started filming her at first but when she started seeing her impact, she loved it so much. Making these videos was a way of getting to know her beyond the roles that society put her in. I hope that I was able to give her a voice that she never had and I am so happy you were all here to listen. I just know she’s smoking a pack up there in heaven. We lost a legend. Making these meatballs made me feel a little better. Thank you for watching.

I've been thinking about you and your mom since I first saw the tragic news. I was so surprised to see it and couldn't believe it. I re-read the post repeatedly thinking I was misunderstanding something. I felt like I knew her and I feel so sad for you and your family. I don't want to stop seeing her or hearing about her. There is never a great time to lose a parent it feels like realizing that superman can die and it is never easy to think that such people that we grew up to see them as superheroes as they had an ever ending strength will be lost from our lives... But whenever happens I wish that it is in any moment that children and parents are aware both sides of their love for one another... That's the only consolating thing...
