I originally suspected that I needed to change the encapsulation. However what i've done is first configure the interface with switchport mode access and then configure it with switchport mode trunk. This fixed my issue.

Just getting started. I was doing "do sh run" and saw "switchport nonegotiate" so I did a lot of "no switchport nonegotiate"-stuff which took a lot of time. Will try your way right now.

Sir i connected switch2 to two hosts, it works fine .vlan 1 with 2 host pings succeed, and vlan 2 with 2 host pings succeed.Is it possible to ping vlan1 and vlan2. If it's possible explain how to ping them.

So strange, I never received the command rejection line when enabling trunk mode and everything worked liked a charm, was it because I configured interface 1 to access first then trunk?

Thanks for a brilliant channel Jeremy. I cannot seem to open the labs in packet tracer on a brand new Dell PC laptop. Error: the file is not compatible with the version of packet tracer. I downloaded the latest packet tracer. I have it on my Macbook Pro at home and it works fine (though the packet tracer for mac is a little different.) Any ideas? anyone with a similar problem. Thanks!
