The Power Clean

The power clean is the perfect training exercise for the violent hip-leg extension of the second pull. It has great application to explosive sport movement, but those sporting movements are not going to develop maximal hip-leg explosiveness. Only weightlifting can develop this explosiveness due to the unique posture and dynamics of the second pull.

I wish my cleans looked like this. I'm learning. Discipline and patience.

It looks simple, but it's really hard to do properly

Thanks, I'm studying my first S&C course to help with coaching my preferred sport. These videos are short and informative and stay away from all the usual accompanying arguments about what is right, wrong, better, worse etc. I just want to learn the technique first. The debate can come later when I know what I'm doing. These videos demonstrate technique clearly.

Oh man, that doesn't look so easy! I'm about to start a fundamentals class before the Crossfit sessions and I can see that I'll have to concentrate properly to learn this

Question, is dropping the bar after this movement the correct thing to do or do you bring the bar back to the first position under control?

Someone like me who doesn't have the arm flexibility to do the front squat will have a great challenge.

It seems to me as if you could combine this exercise with an Overhead Press quite easily.

I feel like I remember being able to put a lot of weight on during this exercise, finishing with more than my body weight on top of my shoulders, with my arms held out in front of me. Yeah good 200 - 300 pounds, with practice. Great stuff and it was really fun, especially with the weights covered in rubber and the floor, too, with this kind of vulcanized rubber- you could just let the bar fall to the ground between each rep 😄

And the procedure for letting the bar down is...?

How do you safely put it down to reset?
