You AREN'T Hidden When Using Night Vision Like THIS

#NightVision #Test #VS
Here, we compare what someone would see while looking at you (if you were wearing 3 individual night vision devices that have their illuminators on). This is tested at night and with a rangefinder. Interesting results from the PVS-14, Night Fox, and NVG10!

A: Great video. B: You should use your illuminator (as well as your NV gear) as sparingly as possible anyway. C: Nightfox Red on ir3 or lower is invisible unless your staring right into it or have your own NV. Also, I recommend weapon mounted illuminators and off body illumination over the direct illuminator anyway. On you weapon, keep it pointed at the ground to cut down on bleed and splash. For off body if your setting up a stationary position, set up illuminators taped to trees or fences or whatever away from you. This will draw eyes off of your position.

All good til someone else with NVG comes along. That's a different story.

Excellent vid man...no one has done this type of study and perspective, very helpful, thank you.

I used to use a small red light in the Army when driving my Humvee along tank trails. This was in the late 90’s/early 2000’s before IR flashlights became ubiquitous with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Good test. It is to note that digital cameras detect IR light better than the human eye and make it visible. Cameras usually have a lens that is supposed to block IR light out, but it's still more sensitive to it than the Eyeball_v1.0 Just as you describe that the illuminator is far less visible to the naked eye than seen on the video.
With the bit older cameras you could actually test if remotes still send signals or if the battery is dead by pointing a camera (e.g. mobile phone) at the emitter while pressing a button, as TV remotes work with IR diodes.

Interesting video. First time watcher and gotta subscribe outta me. I was one of those guys who thought I’d never own NV and last year got a TNVC L3 THIN FILMED GP PVS14. Great specs and gotta great deal secondhand from a guy I met on ARFcom and I’m really happy with it. Now that I do own NV I wanna upgrade to a nice LAM (currently using a Holosun LS321G and honestly the lasers on it isn’t bad at all. Holds right up to any other civilian powered lasers but the IR illuminator leaves something to be desired) and would like to upgrade to duals eventually as well but like a spoiled brat what I REALLY want now is thermal. Night vision is awesome don’t get me wrong. Love it but honestly I think thermal is superior. Having dual WP NV and having a handheld thermal unit or something on a lanyard would be awesome. Thermal overlay on the helmet coupled with NV would be cool as well but I feel like having both separate would suffice for me.

Good video 👍 I guess I should be glad that the 850nm ir illuminator did not work on my nvg10 when I received it so I've been using my 940nm that has a much dimmer glow then 850nm

What are the wavelengths of the lamps? Are they all the same (850nm vs 940nm)? 850nm is more visible to the naked eye, 940nm much less. However, 940nm has a much shorter illumination range than 850nm (about 20-30% less distance covered). Coices, choices, choices.

I have ordered some narrow band pass filter glass that blocks all light except 850 nm. I plan to see if i can reduce the visible red glow from illluminators.

Should try the test with the nightfox red or cape. They only have one ir and supposedly its 940nm ir, and the swift uses an 850nm ir

Would the night fox even be usable at 170 yards?

What do each of these lights look like under night vision? Are the IR illuminators like spotlights to NVGs?
