Clearing NVIDIA Shader Cache for Better Performance in MS Flight Simulator 2020
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to clear your NVIDIA shader cache to improve performance when playing MS Flight Simulator 2020. The main reason that you want to delete your Shader cache as well as your rolling cache in the simulator is because anytime there is an update or you download and install new scenery add-ons or airports things can get overridden. Similar to when you download and update to a third party aircraft most of the time the developer will ask you to uninstall the previous version before you install the newest version and this is to help reduce any inconsistencies with the files or overlapping and conflicting files. I followed your directions and then fired up msfs. The frame rate was so slow it almost made it

Up front I just want to say thanks for the last year or so for all these helpful suggestions to improve MSFS2020. I have been following all of them to the letter, some helpful, some with mixed results. Deleting caches has been a regular routine for many of us out there it seems, shame on a software developer to make us go through so many hoops just to tolerate their product! What's next; delete the entire piece of software and reload fresh on every No way, I'll delete it first, lol! In lieu of these efforts, it's undeniable that this awful piece of software continues to degrade performance with each and every update this year! If your system is just a couple years old in both processor and GPU, then your weathering the storm at a barely tolerable rate. The rest of us however, are not! My I7-9700K "seems to" be overburdened more and more with every passing update, however the data I have recorded does not exactly support this conclusion as I have contradicting data. (However I am not a software engineer and may not be looking at the most important data elements?) Also my RTX-3080Ti seems to never be breaking a sweat, (steady at 45-55% GPU load) then a transient during the CPU spike mentioned next; if you can believe the data I have recorded over the 2 years since the purchase. Ironically though the data also shows the CPU not being overworked either, steady at 55-65% workload except every 3 minutes or so when there is a consistent CPU spike that off-loads the GPU and the frame dips for a fraction of a second to less than 10 then heads back up to 23. The only indication the CPU is over-burdened is the consistent latency spikes on some of the CPU monitors available to us, indicating it's missing it's duties to send frames to the GPU, is my guess??? (Memory= 64GB of 3600 DDR4, over 4 sticks.) My extensive testing is over a fixed area, (Downtown San Francisco), circle after circle at 500ft over the same area and over the past year I have had to steadily reduce settings to maintain the minimum Reprojected frame rate at only 23 fps! (I used to get 30!) I see the exact problem at other high-density metro areas all around the world but my control area has always been S.F. USA. Now I have settings so low that any lower and the visual quality is so bad it's intolerable on the HP Reverb G2. Even on the rural areas, I used to get reprojected 45 FPS, now it's steady at 30 and rarely ever see's 45 anymore! There are still occasional stutters in cities because of only 23 FPS. No reprojection= It's a stuttering mess everywhere down low, in-town or in the country: trees/buildings just on past, LOL! I don't know what to do at this point; suggestions anyone? At this juncture, I want to just delete the program and play other fun games that don't take a 5K system just to tolerate the minimum performance, And I have seen is run on a 13900K with a 4090 on a Varjo Aero! All that money and one "STILL" has to limit settings and "STILL" not a totally smooth trouble free experience! Still get an occasional stutter and emersion breaking morphing everywhere;cliffs= all the time, buildings; sometimes there too. Even if you have an area preloaded in high resolution. Roads that look painted/not carved into hill sides, roads under the overpasses in same direction is still funny to see everywhere. Still can't figure that one out ASOBO??? Weird holes in the earth, deep cracks in the earth that are not there for real, I even saw a river recently raised "UP" from the rest of the land around it for about 2-3 miles, ouch! Jeez, still all this after 3+ years, LOL! Thanks for your hard efforts to make this product tolerable to some, take care:)
