Hi Maria, me again) It was a pleasure to watch this video. I just love seeing russian (or russian speaking) people who speak foregin languages fluently. It inspires me so much because it shows that it's possible to learn languages without going abroad and living in a "language environment". I hate all of these statements like "you have to go to England, otherwise you'll never be able to understand/speak/teach English". Maybe it's because I don't actually have money for travelling but.. so it is)
I have the same story about school, except the fact that I was learning English from 2d till 11th grade) But in general I have the same feeling that I learned nothing (which seems to be unreal of course). After school I couldn't say a word in English. We all thought it was too complicated and only those who had a personal teacher had a chance to pass state exam or smth like this.
And only after graduating from my local Univercity I thought that if I managed to reach B1 level in German in a year perhaps I could improve my English as well. Now I really enjoy the process of learning even if it's a bit difficult. But yeah, by accident I found a teacher with russian accent for me)) Anyway, I like her approach and that she's always supporting me on my way.
Hoffe es tat nicht weh meinen Kommentar zu lesen)

I hadn't heard about TRIZ before, Marija, so I'll be looking that up. It just shows how much influence good teachers can have on people's lives. So good that you were able to work professionally with the teacher after you left school, as well.

Ir could be a good slogan/ catchword for a language advertisement or as matter of fact for any advertisement: " Do you want to succeed? Know your why !"

Marija, your story about Mr. Sokol was an inspiration for me. I love the idea of learning on an ad hoc basis as you described: If I need to solve a problem or develop an idea, I learn those bits of my target language that allow me to just that. It seems to me that that approach would give the learner an opportunity to mold their own personality in the target language. To me, "traditional" language instruction fails, in part, by way of not allowing the language learner to take along the persona they have in their mother tongue into the language they are learning. It sounds to me as if Mr. Sokol's approach allows the human person to select, in their new language, vocabulary and language constructs which already fit with the way they think in their native language. I would think that such an approach would be a source of motivation in its own right.

Your spoken English sounded very good today, but, then, it always does. I listened very closely for things that sounded off, but they never appeared. What you're doing to reach your English speaking goals is working well.

I'm an old man learning my first foreign language, German. It makes sense that the TRIZ method would work well for writing in a new foreign language, since while writing one has time to work through the details of vocabulary and grammar. I would like to know how you developed your spoken English skills. Speaking has its own special challenges, not the least of which is that one doesn't have time to work out word choice and grammar issues while in a conversation. You seem strong and confident with your spoken English. How did you achieve such a level of proficiency?

Have a wonderful day,

Your learning-English-way is original :)
My way is maybe not so interesting, but not ordinary too. I love Michael Jackson and English is an instrument to learn more about him :)
