4:7 Polyrhythm Challenge #Shorts This is a polyrhythm demonstration of the four against 7 polyrhythm or 4:7 (...It could also be looked at as 7:4 since I put the beat on 1.) This drum lesson is tougher, but give it a try and I hope the visual helps you out.

Everyone who likes jazz “this slaps”
Everyone who likes rock “brain hurty”

If I do this, I'd suddenly find myself going on a walk while chopping woods with my hands on the ground and facemask on my feet.

"Drums aren't a real instrument" is what my niece's 80 year old piano teacher said when she asked me if I played an instrument

46 & 2 drum solo is a great example of this

So this is an honest 7 against 4 polymeter. The 7 is moving 1and3/4 faster than the 4 (you know eight against four becomes "double time" or 2 to 1.) The next challenge is to sub-divide the "7" or the "4" against the steady flow of the other rhythm. IE play one polymeter rhythm in eighths, triplets and sixteenths against the other rhythm which will be hanging onto a steady four (or steady seven). Also, can you count "four" while playing in seven or count in 7 while playing the four? This then proves that the brain is hearing both rhythms at the same time at which point you can actually play and improvise in both, at the same time, while not having to stop one in order to continue...
